The Security Bill for Princess Eugenie’s Wedding is £2 million

And it is coming out of the public purse.

Excellent opinion piece by Libby Purves in today’s Times pointing out that this extravaganza will have an impact on real people and actual crime.

Does the silly Bridezilla really think her Wedding is as interesting as Meghan and Harry’s? If she wants to copy their Wedding, she needs to pay for it.

That's dated back in 2010. I know that Andrew now pays for Beatrice and Eugenie's security, as it was being withdrawn. Andrew kicked up a stink about it! Grin Presumably other people's security has been withdrawn too?

ajandjjmum · 22/08/2018 20:10

So....apparently in 2017 those receiving security were - Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Charles and Camilla, William and Kate (and presumably their children), Harry (and now Meghan), Anne, Andrew and Edward and Sophie.

Got too much time on my hands!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/08/2018 20:12

Not sure the Cambridge kids need 5 each do they?

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/08/2018 20:13

I mean, no one does obviously, but it seems even more excessive for them as one is still a babe in arms!

SamanthaBrique · 22/08/2018 21:07

I remember reading years ago that anyone with an HRH gets royal protection officers. That's why Diana didn't have any after her divorce.

FlibbertyGiblets · 22/08/2018 21:30

God 5 protection bods. Imagine wanting to sneak off to the back of the shed for a crafty fag and a silent scream at your dearly beloved and being tailed. No ta.

Pannalash · 22/08/2018 21:32

Wombling I think it’s because he may one day take on the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

ajandjjmum · 23/08/2018 07:17

That article made me smile. The last serious incident was when someone tried to kidnap Anne in the Mall. Clearly someone breaking in to chat to the Queen in her bedroom isn't serious! Grin

Headfullofdreams · 23/08/2018 07:47

It's disgraceful, we should not be paying for minor royals who don't even carry out public duties! Have nothing against the girl personally but why should she get £2 million of our taxes spent on her wedding. Outrageous waste of public money.

pasttimes11 · 23/08/2018 12:19

I bet those highly trained officers feel so privileged though.

SamanthaBrique · 23/08/2018 12:52

Maybe it's a cushy billet.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 23/08/2018 12:55

honestly that branch of the royal family takes the biscuit for cheeky fuckery, the lot of them, father, mother and frumpy daughters.

Prince Harry got a wedding like that because he is....Prince Harry, son of St Diana. Besides that , people actually like him, even anti -royalists.

Eugenie simply isn't in the same bracket, whatever she and her dad think.

I bet she looks a fright apart from anything else.

MissEliza · 23/08/2018 14:12

My friend's dp used to be a traffic cop years ago. He once pulled over a car for speeding only to find a royal protection officer getting out and approaching him before he could approach the driver. Turns out it was Fergie driving and she was having an absolute fit about the thought of being done for speeding and insisted her protection officer get her off. My friend's dp only relented (rightly or wrongly) because he could see this guy was really going to get it in neck otherwise. So yes she's a cheeky fucker. Of course Andy's nickname around Windsor Great Park is Toad of Toad Hall because of how he drives.

SamanthaBrique · 23/08/2018 14:17

Wasn't Princess Anne convicted of dangerous driving some years ago?

SamanthaBrique · 23/08/2018 14:18

No wait, I'm thinking of something else. I think Anne got in trouble with the law as her dogs attached someone.

sashh · 23/08/2018 14:36

I totally agree - I think they’re not allowed to do duties rather tahn not wanting tonthough.

Who or what is stopping them?

If it's true that they can't then there are other things rich women with too much time can do such as charity work, nothing to stop them doing that.

SamanthaBrique · 23/08/2018 14:48

If Princess Alexandra and the Kents and Gloucesters can carry out royal duties then why can't the Yorks?

pasttimes11 · 23/08/2018 16:07

Reassuring to know our police use up a lot of their resources looking after one privileged family. Meanwhile for the rest of us.......Hmm

ajandjjmum · 23/08/2018 18:49

I suspect because Andrew would want them to do duties in keeping with their position as 'blood princesses', rather than going to open a new care home in Grimsby.

MissEliza · 23/08/2018 22:05

Blood princesses what a ridiculous term.

Rebecca36 · 23/08/2018 22:36

If I seriously believed I would have to pay £2b I would be very annoyed, apart from being in debt for life. However I'm sure I won't notice any difference and the businesses in Windsor (food, b&b, hotels etc) will make a lot of money which means £+ in tax.

Good luck to Princess Eugenie, I hope her wedding goes off well and she is happy.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/08/2018 22:45

@MissEliza I always think it makes them sound like Dracula.

TomHardysNextWife · 23/08/2018 22:49

Let's face it, this wedding is going to be one huge exercise in vulgarity and that includes the Policing bill.

All hosted by Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duke and Duchess of Vulgaria.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/08/2018 22:53

I just have a feeling it'll be the Fergie Show and there's nothing the royals can do to stop her as it's her daughters wedding.

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/08/2018 23:00

I read that Andrew is apoplectic that the wedding is not being televised . I also expect Philip to be otherwise engaged on the day given his hostility towards Fergie.
I do wish Eugenie well but she should have had a low key wedding like Zara .
