17 year old girl stoned to death for falling in love with a boy from a different religion.

dark ages

southeastastra · 23/05/2007 17:26

well i guess it's not as interesting as pole dancing or biting children. i give up.

OP posts:
lionheart · 23/05/2007 17:28

No, don't give up. Was this the 17 year old Kurdish girl whose murder was filmed and posted on the net?

ArcticRoll · 23/05/2007 17:29

Which country was it in?

rowan1971 · 23/05/2007 17:30

Honour killing? I'm all for it...

I suspect that this is something that everyone agrees with you on. Hence no debate. Of course, it's completely appalling and the culprits should be strung up (oops, did I say that?)

southeastastra · 23/05/2007 17:43

i'm not really after a debate, but was just shocked by it. i know it's a sick sad world and guess i'm just upset.

good for them publishing it though.

I didn't see the article but they were talking about it on Women's Hour a few days ago. Is there a link?

southeastastra · 23/05/2007 17:53

this from Amnesty International

There are stills from the video posted on Wikipedia.

southeastastra · 23/05/2007 18:02

it's just so heart wrenching i've found lots about her online, but will not watch the video. i feel like i've stumbled across something that i hadn't given much thought to before. so sad and pointless.

It enrages. It really does.

I saw this and was disgusted that this kind of thing is allowed to happen, thought of as normal in some regions of the world. Funny how it is always the woman who suffers.

But remember the woman in Nigeria who faced a similar death for daring to have a child out of wedlock?

Interesting wording where they wrote how someone put this poor girl out of her misery by throwing a slab on her head! Oh yeah, really kind, a humanitarian indeed.

SueBaroo · 23/05/2007 22:17

I saw this last week online. Dear lord there just isn't any excuse. stick yer culture right where the sun doesn't shine, it's not worth respecting if this is what you call honour.

There, glad i got that off me chest.

southeastastra · 24/05/2007 08:30

it's so sick isn't it, i can't stop thinking about it.

in the magazine they suggest emailing the embassy but i can't really see that they'd take any notice, but i suppose it's better than feeling useless about it

Horrific. Wonder if that poster who always denies misogyny exists will turn up on this thread.

lionheart · 24/05/2007 09:08

Somebody denies that misogyny exists ...

allgonebellyup · 24/05/2007 11:14

fu*ing disgraceful and disgusting. its always the women that pay in these countries and cultures. Always about betraying their husband or their religion. Well religion can go f*K itself if this is what it leads to.

themoon66 · 24/05/2007 12:40

Horrible, horrible horrible. Makes my blood run cold. I saw the pics in another magazine last week and could only imagine..... if that was my DD

lionheart · 24/05/2007 12:56

Have no idea if this will help but something is better than nothing, I think. Campaign here.

I know she's not the only victim but I'm hoping that the fact that it was posted on the net will help bring the people

responsible to justice and raise awareness of the suffering of so many others.

SueBaroo · 24/05/2007 13:38

It's like all those crappy stories of women who are raped and face a birching for it.
