In England the McCanns would be arrested

Off the bat, I of course hope with all my heart that Madeleine is returned safely

But her "parents" are a disgrace. They left Madeleine and two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie sleeping in the apartment ON THEIR OWN. They had taken turns to return from the restaurant to check on their children.

Now hang on! In this country that is illegal, for very good reason.

Even if they 'checked on them' every five minutes that's plenty of time for one of the kids to wake up and try to go to the toilet and crack it's head open slipping on the bathroom floor, or something equally disastrous. They'd never hear the screaming from a bloody restaurant down the road!

Obviously it's unlikely, but I just cant comprehend the mentality of leaving three children under 3 alone on their own, ever, let alone at night in a foreign country!

You're entitled to your opinions obviously, but what can you possibly hope to achieve by expressing them like this? Whatever they may or may not have done wrong, don't you think this is punishment enough? I can't actually believe I'm even bothering to post this.

ConnieDescending · 18/05/2007 14:03

Just for a minute think about what you are saying!

Lets say for arguments sake they were arrested. What would happen to those 2 year old twins? Wrenched apart from their parents. And what of when Madeleine is hopefully found alive and well? Where would she go...what would happen????

FGS think about it!

expatinscotland · 18/05/2007 14:03

FWIW, you are not alone in your sentiment.

But we're not allowed to express that sentiment here. It's considered offensive.

So find another site.

LostPuppy · 18/05/2007 14:04

Why do you want the thread to be deleted.

Does anyone else on here leave their children unattended? From the reaction it seems that you think it is OK.

OP posts:
nogoes · 18/05/2007 14:04

Piss Off.

And I never ever swear..

nogoes · 18/05/2007 14:06

And no I don't leave my child unattended but there is no point to this thread whatsoever. Go and do something constructive with your time.

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2007 14:07

How do I ask to have a thread deleated, do I email MN Towers?

lulumama · 18/05/2007 14:08

because it is not illegal to leave your children

would you have arrested the parents of James Bulger? Sarah Payne?

so, the parents, are to be punished not the perpetrator of the crime...

mumemma · 18/05/2007 14:08

What is the point of posting this here, and why now? It's not illegal, it has been much discussed, everyone has an opinion and Madeleine is still missing.

Some of us, and yes I do mean me, and many others who may not like to admit it, have done exactly the same whilst on holiday. I'm not saying that to start another discussion btw and I'm not proud of it either. The benefit of hindsight is a wonderful thing.

"let alone at night in a foreign country".....FFS!

There are plenty of other boards blaming the parents and even casting suspicion on them, maybe you'd be find more sympathy there.

lulumama · 18/05/2007 14:09

clcik on the red exclamation point , lynette

tombley · 18/05/2007 14:09

I want the thread deleted because there is a small possibility that a member of the McCann family might see it and be further distressed by your attitude. They are in a living hell, why would you want to upset them further? You will also upset MNers as this subject has already caused so much upset that people have left. It's just shit stirring.

LoveAngel · 18/05/2007 14:10

Oh booooyyyyy.

HAVE A HEART, FFS!

How can you even be talking about this now when her parents are ging through what they are going through?

Jesus, some people.

montmerency · 18/05/2007 14:10

If I could say hand on heart that every parenting decision I had made was a perfect one then I would be in a position ot criticse this poor family. Their punishment does not in any way fit the perceived crime.

The McCann family are more than aware of what that tapas meal has cost them and they do not need this kind of negative thinking. Positive thoughts people!

I am surprised that such a thread has been posted.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 18/05/2007 14:11

Lostpuppy - Couldn't a child wake in the night to use the loo and slip and hurt themselves (or whatever else) whilst you were asleep in the same house or if you were sitting in the garden having a meal, or on the phone or.....??

My ds recently slipped and hurt his head on the ground outside the back door. I was there. I couldn't do anything to stop it. He ended up in A and E. So am I to blame just because I stopped watching him for a millisecond?
You can't wrap your child in cotton wool I am afraid. I am not saying leaving children alone is my cup of tea, just that it is not a cut and dry situation.

mumto3girls · 18/05/2007 14:11

I, too, have requested this be deleted.

izzybiz · 18/05/2007 14:13

Children have been stolen from their homes while their parents were asleep.

They are the ones who now have to live with their decision, they dont need people like you adding extra pain to what they are already suffering.

Taylormama · 18/05/2007 14:13

i want it to be deleted because it is so ill informed, and designed to be offensive and imflamatory. This terrible crime has been discussed endlessly on thread after thread so why start this one - i will tell you why because the OP wanted to start another fight

mumfor1standfinaltime · 18/05/2007 14:14

For once, I would like to kill this thread..please.

montmerency · 18/05/2007 14:15

I think something changes in you, psychologically, when you have a child - I would crawl through barbed wire to protect my two and would lay down my own life to protect them - poeple making these insensitive, sensational comments clearly do not understand that emotion.

LostPuppy · 18/05/2007 14:15

But, mumfor1standfinaltime, you were there, and that's the point. We've all been to A&E!

Just to repeat, nothing I have said here means I want anything less than her to come back home safely.

I'm not making any further comment, so delete the thread if you feel like it.

OP posts:
Macdog · 18/05/2007 14:16

I've also requested the thread be deleted.

As I said earlier, NO-ONE is so perfect that they can pass judgement on ANYONE

lucyellensmum · 18/05/2007 14:29

OMG the insensitivity of some people, this has been done to death, FGS show some compassion LP

Marne · 18/05/2007 14:30

Maybe you (lostpuppy) should keep your opinions to yourself. Im sure we all have views/opinions on this subject but here is not the place to post them.

No ones perfect when it come's to perenting (me being far from perfect),i would'nt leeve my kids but i have put myself and kids in situations were someone could take them (it only takes a few minutes to take a child)

I will also be trying to get this thread deleted

MrsSpoon · 18/05/2007 14:40

Many of us on MN have said that we would not have done what the McCanns did that night however IMO they must have suffered more pain the last couple of weeks than anyone should even have to. I sincerely hope that little Madeleine comes back to them safe and well.

I also hope that none of us has to go through a similar horrific experience as we give our children wings and let them fly. As they get older you have to give them some independence and with that come risks, any one of us could be in that situation saying 'If only...', unless of course you plan to keep your children locked up until they are 21.

maisemor · 18/05/2007 14:41

I am not saying that I agree with Lost Puppy but I don't understand why Lost Puppy is not allowed to air his views/opinions on here?

Who decides what can be talked about and discussed here?

If you don't agree with him just say so and move to another thread.

Please believe me I am not trying to rock the boat or anything like that I am just curious.

Can I ask what "trip trap" means?
