Think there's anything we can do to change their minds?

MarsLady · 14/05/2007 16:12

Don't forget. Lemon Drizzle Cake is vegetarian friendly.

HuwEdwards · 14/05/2007 16:13

ah yes, you did pop into my mind marsy!

A "principled decision"?

What "principles" would those be, then?

I can see no reason to do this, other than cost. But I wonder how much it will cost them in lost sales?

MarsLady · 14/05/2007 16:14

That's how it should be Huw.... you hear Mars... you think me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo....................!

becklespeckledfrog · 14/05/2007 16:19

Bounty, Minstrels, Mars Bars - those are some of my diet staples! I can't understand why they would change this??? Surely they will loose a fair chunk of customers?

macneil · 14/05/2007 17:19

I think it's absolutely insane. I'm not a vegetarian, but my husband is, and besides, I just don't want beefy Maltesers. Chocolate isn't supposed to contain rennet. It's funny how no good chocolate makers include it, but Mars suddenly think it's a good idea. Are they really saving enough to offset all veggies giving them up?

dozydizzy · 14/05/2007 17:27

Well they've lost a customer here. ( Shame, i love maltesers, but feel sick at the thought. Can't understand the reasoning on this one, cost cutting I suppose. huh.

squidette · 14/05/2007 17:35

I was a little confused by the spokesperson's remarkes than non-strict vegetarians can still enjoy the products!

Does 'non-strict vegetarian' = person who eats animal products now?

LazyLine · 14/05/2007 17:36

A "less strict" vegetarian could still enjoy our products.....

That would be a non-vegetarian then...

LazyLine · 14/05/2007 17:36

LOL at x-post

I was about to post something about how unnecessary and pennypinching this is, but then realised that the mint imperial I'm sucking on contains beef gelatin.

fuzzywuzzy · 14/05/2007 17:42

Nooooooooo

bohemianbint · 14/05/2007 18:57

"If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian" !!! As opposed to a fish and meat eating one? Grrrr.....

fluffskin · 14/05/2007 19:23

Well here's another ex-customer. Mars Bars and Twixes are two of my favourite things - but not any more!

WigWamBam · 14/05/2007 19:23

Actually, a lot of people who don't eat meat will eat sweets, puddings and other products containing gelatine - and they still class themselves as veggie because they're not eating meat per se.

A veggie I used to know offered me some Skittles sweets once, and when I pointed out that they weren't suitable for vegetarians because of the gelatine, she said "Well, I can't exactly see a lump of steak sitting in the pack ..." - it didn't bother her at all.

I also wonder how well Mars will publicise this, and how many people who don't eat gelatine won't realise that the ingredients have changed - people generally carry on eating the same things they always did without bothering to read the label.

wheresthehamster · 14/05/2007 19:55

"Masterfoods said the change was due to it switching the sourcing of its ingredients..." ?????

Still can't work this statement out. Surely that's just stating the obvious not actually telling us why they are changing.

MaPickle · 14/05/2007 20:01

I have signed the petition! I love Mars Bars. Bastardy bastards. Apparently you can eat them until the sell by date passes October 07 - any with a sell by date after October 07 are no good for veggies (you know, the veggies who don't eat meat as opposed to the ones that do)

ThePrisoner · 14/05/2007 21:34

The company make Whiskas and Pedigree petfood, so it is fairly obvious that they are going to make all their products on the same sites and do a bit of mixing'n'matching.

I have informed my cats that we will be boycotting all their products from now on.

Oh God ... no more Galaxy ...

I cannot believe that they are doing this, what a backward step.

NotanOtter · 14/05/2007 21:47

I am aghast

NotanOtter · 14/05/2007 21:50
