Has anyone seen the reports of some UK schools being put on lock down?

I’ve only seen it on HuffPost here:

m.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/schools-across-uk-on-lockdown_uk_5abb9117e4b03e2a5c77f152?f6s but it’s struck me as such a horrible thing to do. Before I quit teaching and returned to it from ML in2017 there were notices in our classes talking about bomb threats and what to do if we see a suspicious parcel on school grounds.

I know there were reported hoax bomb threats again this month, but running them down/shooting fleeing pupils is such vivid imagery to use.

I know emotive language gets jumped on a bit here but as someone who used to teach nursery children and with my own DS nearly that age, this has really upset me.

Yes. Its in our area. A colleagues child's school received it and she picked up early. Lots in sun, mirror etc but nothing on BBC. As its now past the time I'm hoping there is nothing to report.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 16:37

Have been on edge all afternoon

AlexanderHamilton · 28/03/2018 16:40

Yes, my young nephew was helping to look after all the younger kids who were evacuated to his school from a neighbouring school. Also parents have hadvto pick up inside the grounds.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 16:42

No recent updates but I assume no news is good news

Mner · 28/03/2018 16:44

DS' school received an email and we heard at 2pm that there was a 'threat'. The kids spent all day inside - luckily it's been raining anyway. There were extra people on patrol this afternoon at pick up and all the kids were handed out one by one.

Risefromthedust · 28/03/2018 16:45

Yep our area too.

Youngest sen dc and I were in the Manchester arena the weekend before the attack and we both know people who lost family and friends so this is currently making them panic every time it is in the news :(

Since then and since the lock down drills Dc is having nightmares about them being on the bus, in school or in our house and planning escape routes constantly so I do hope they fuck off. Angry

I saw that. It happened last week too.

The staff at my school have had lockdown training; I assume staff in most schools have now too. Sad times.

They mentioned a bomb threat last week, where was that? I heard nothing at the time!

TheMythicalChicken · 28/03/2018 16:50

This happened at my son’s school a year ago (not in UK). It’s utterly dispicable. Poor kids. I hope they get the person(s) who did this.

Risefromthedust · 28/03/2018 16:51

The one in the last couple of weeks was across the country. Some stupid Minecraft related argument apparently.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 16:52

100 schools apparently

They mentioned a bomb threat last week, where was that? I heard nothing at the time!

A couple of academies and colleges were targeted in Cumbria.

Terrorist organisations find this an easy way to spread alarm. The IRA used to do it all the time. There was an agreement with the newspapers not to publicise it to deprive them of publicity. Social media means that this is not an option now.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 17:00

Well tbh no one has mentioned it on Facebook as far as I can see which is good.

AlexanderHamilton · 28/03/2018 17:03

ITs all over our local paper Facebook page & they sent a reporter to wait outside my nephew’s school.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 17:04

Oh dear. I'll rephrase that to none of my friends have mentioned it. Of course assuming the schools weren't one of the one hundred, the may not know.

ilovekitkats · 28/03/2018 17:05

There were bomb threats a couple of weeks ago, I think they arrested a teenager for that. Schools in Devon received emails then and it was some Devon schools again today.

PickAChew · 28/03/2018 17:08

Yep, got a text about it from ds2's school before I read the news. Sounds like a similar thing to last time.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 17:09

Glad everything is OK pick.

KitKatCHA · 28/03/2018 17:13

My kids school was one of the ones affected. They didn't handle it fantastically to be honest. I was in the school at 2pm to see one of the teachers and they hadn't even been told about the threat

CastielIsMyAngel · 28/03/2018 17:17

A lot of schools in my area (Co Durham) have been on lockdown today and lots of police about. Seems to have passed without incident thankfully, I heard it was a hoax

Tara336 · 28/03/2018 17:19

Yes there’s been threats in our area (Herts)

Fluffybat · 28/03/2018 17:20

I teach in London. We had similar email last week but was treated as a hoax.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 17:22

So who would be doing this
