your encouragment is way different to what he's done though, he made his name through giving advice to children on television. wish i could remember the programme's name, think it was the itv version of live and kicking.

MrsFish · 23/04/2007 21:03

My niece who was three in March had a TV for christmas I don't agree with it at all, but what can you say?

FrannyandZooey · 23/04/2007 21:14

But people can have an epiphany and change of heart without being hypocrites, surely?

AitchTwoOh · 23/04/2007 21:22

i don't care if he's a hypocrite particularly, but i find him a drawling, irritating twat with a bad haircut.

fishie · 23/04/2007 21:24

of course. but i have heard nothing about his own children's tv career and to epiph properly i think you have to acknowledge sins (? not expert)

actually i only remember him because he really irritated me at the time and now you're going to say he is a delightful chap and i'll feel bad.

FrannyandZooey · 23/04/2007 21:24

Now that's a comment I can relate to more easily.

I don't know what he looks or sounds like. Because I don't watch TV

I liked his book, a lot.

lucy5 · 23/04/2007 21:25

There was a thread on this yesterday and those figures definitely don't correspond with the mini- mumsnet survey.

FrannyandZooey · 23/04/2007 21:25

LOL fishie I have no idea

but I did like his book

did I mention that?

FrannyandZooey · 23/04/2007 21:25

LOLOL like MN is a properly representational slice of society

moondog · 23/04/2007 21:26

Who the hell is he??

AitchTwoOh · 23/04/2007 21:28

i refer you to my post of 21.22 moony.

MrsGumby · 23/04/2007 21:28

Never heard of him but you must be able to get a good anagram out of that name...

fishie · 23/04/2007 21:28

ooer if you ever saw him you'd be chucking that book at his head. quack quack quack.

moondog · 23/04/2007 21:29

Ah yes Aitch.
The description is what whetted my appetite.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 23/04/2007 21:30

84.7% of statistics are made up bollocks

mummytosteven · 23/04/2007 21:31

imagine raj persaud, but more lightweight.

FrannyandZooey · 23/04/2007 21:31

That is the beauty and mystique of the written word over the visual

if you saw me you would all run away too

AitchTwoOh · 23/04/2007 21:31

pouty

moondog · 23/04/2007 21:36

Oh dear mts.
Am getting very nasty picture indeed.

moondog · 23/04/2007 21:38

He likes himself eh?

Actually,I think he has a point.
I see a hell of a lot of kids with tvs when doing home visits (as a salt).
We don't watch tv at all.I couldn't stand it and anyuway, have no time.

Love the irony of that temple of high culture, the Daily Mail no less, endorsing his book.

flack · 23/04/2007 21:39

This might be the study that had that 50% statistic.
Have to buy it to find out.
Not true ime, either.

Spidermama · 23/04/2007 21:44

Well I'm a big fan. I think he's very bright, spot on and somewhat hot to boot. (Not that that would cloud my reason.

I'm interested in those people who are suspicious of his motives and ROFL in disbelief in those who actually believe he's part of some conspiracy to intensify feelings of guilt in parents and particularly mums. Get a grip!

fishie · 23/04/2007 21:48

HOT? he is weasel.

i never said i approved of tv either. would rather watch qvc than dr sig though.

flack · 23/04/2007 21:51

One in three children under four "has a television". [ BUT that's "only" 33%, right?? ]

A third of children under four now have a television in their bedrooms, a survey has found, and pre-school children typically watch more than two hours of television a day. In the survey, 750 parents with children aged up to six were interviewed by NOP for the Early Learning Centre, a toy retailer.

OldieMum · 23/04/2007 21:59

Is this him too?

I was innocently looking for a proper research study that he might have done to back up his claims. DH and I kept thinking of how difficult it would be to do research on the impact of TV on children's development while controlling for social class, intelligence, input from parents etc etc. But why bother when you can just join the rent-a-quote gang, or sell stuff like this ????
