That's what Chris Rock says two cents, "if bullets cost $5000 each that would be the end to inocent bystanders"

I think a lot of pressure is put on the young to succeed, and when they come to a disapointment some, not many, are unable to cope with that and take extreme action.

Gun control in the US is what it is, it's not going to change anytime soon. I can't say what it's like in any other states, but in Michigan, it's not as if you can just walk into a shop and buy a gun. There are controls you have to get a permit, you do have to answer questions.

Anoah · 17/04/2007 13:23

Okay wait a minute. I'm pro- gun rights and have to step in here.

Do those of you who are against the right to bear arms really believe that strict gun laws in the USA would stop this shit?

Nope. Too late. The bad guys already have guns (and buy them illegaly, as criminals are not allowed to buy them) and they're not going to politely turn them in when they all get made illegal.

I lived in a rural township of a few thousand people when I lived in the states. We didn't have a local police force and everyone had a handgun in the house. Guess what: We had the lowest crime rate in the whole region. Criminals knew that if they went down there and tried to steal a car and break into a house they were going to get their asses shot. We had nothing in the way of crime down there. NOTHING.

It is very easy to go onto the net and find out how to build a bomb out of household stuff that can do some serious damage. If someone wants to commit a massacre they will find a way to do it. We can't make everything illegal. I hope if I ever find myself in a situation like that I have a gun on me so I can take the nutter out.

paulaplumpbottom · 17/04/2007 13:24

You are exactly right MartinBishop. It was put there so that people could defend themselves from their own government if need be. They assumed given the way things were at the time that militia's would be formed if they were needed. Unfortunatly now a days militia's are full of gun crazy wackos.

Blandmum · 17/04/2007 13:27

Anoha, but statistically the gun you are most likely to be shot with is your own. Either by accident or by a row getting out of hand. If the gun isn't there it can't be used against you.

vimfuego · 17/04/2007 13:27

It would reduce "that shit" and that's enough for me.

I'd rather have house robberies than homicides.

If you have a gun it's a fantasy that you'll use it on an attacker. You'll most likely use it on your family, or vice versa.

Anoah · 17/04/2007 13:29

I think it would be great if Americans used their guns to rebel and take out the government. Unfortunately the government has got nukes. I guess we can always ask Russia for help. Yes yes I'm joking and all that.

By the way I do not in anyway speak for or represent the rest of America when I go on about gun rights and no I am not a member of the michigan militia.

I don't think you have to worry about college students going around armed, It won't be allowed to happen

ruty · 17/04/2007 13:31

who are you parping aviatrix?

sauce · 17/04/2007 13:31

Don't keep a gun unless you expect to use it or more likely, have someone use it on you.

Anoah · 17/04/2007 13:32

I don't like guns at all but I don't see how we could possibly get them away from all of the psychos. I'd rather be able to defend myself than have to rely on the police. Especially if you live in the middle of bumblefuck and have to rely on the state police who are 25 minutes away.

donnie · 17/04/2007 13:32

I think you have described the situation as it already is littlelapin. And it is certainly that way in many other parts of the world.

I moved to the UK before I had kids and never owned a gun as a mother.

What I mean is that Universitys won't allow the students to bring guns to campus. Its true you couldn't put in metal detectors. I think some people on here seem a bit concerned that schools might change their Code of Conduct to allow guns

donnie · 17/04/2007 13:35

the point is Anoah, it is an entirely self defeating argument : too many people have guns so let's allow everyone to get hold of them. Result ? even more ' psychos' ( your word) have a gun to hand. And in the end you end up like communities in Baghdad or Kabul where everyone, including the poorest of the poor, has a gun.

Anoah · 17/04/2007 13:36

So how do we get the guns away from the maniacs then? Gun laws won't help since most of these guys get them illegaly anyway.

paulaplumpbottom · 17/04/2007 13:36

Would you not allow anyone to have any guns at all Donnie?

Like having chocolate in the house. If I know it's there, it's likely I'll eat it. If people have guns in the home, it's likely they'll use them. I know it's too simplistic but basically, how can you use firearms if you don't have them?

Anoah · 17/04/2007 13:38

No Littlelapin I never had a child in my house while I was a gun owner.

donnie · 17/04/2007 13:39

not at all littlelapin- I am aghast at the way the US is awash with guns. I am not surprised, that massacres of this nature take place. What I do find weird is how the police could manage not to catch this guy in the two hours it took for him to get from the first campus to the second.
