Anyone see this on GMTV this morning. A school in Yorkshire has introduced drinking water during the day (in lesson times), but this child won't drink water and his mum want him to be able to have jiuce instead. School has said no and so she has taken him out of school as a protest.

Is she being just a bit ott or do you think that it is acceptable for her to take him out, as she isnt getting her own way? Discuss!

No, most of us Yorkshire people are normal - just the odd dodgy one. Don't foget on the Jamie Oliver programme there were Southerner mums bring the fast food cartons to the school gates too!

Think it all comes down to the big problem we have with many people nowadays, school children included - they know all about their rights but very little about their responsibilities.

Thats ridiculous Macbeth

bozza · 29/03/2007 16:14

But what sort of a right is it? To rot your children's teeth? Spill sticky stuff all over the classroom?

sorry havent had time to read through this massive thread, but just want to say
in the article in the papers about it, i thought the most telling thing was near the end, the mum says 'well i will have to send him to a private school now because they are forcing me too, and of course his sister will have to go there too or it wont be fair" mmm, watch that space, i think i can smell a compensation claim in the air!

hk78 · 29/03/2007 23:17

ooh ive just read a bit. love that 'nobboid' i'll add it to my list of insults

If that mother wins a compensation claim for having to send her child to a private school because he won't drink water, then it is definative proof of a world gone completely and utterly mad, and there is no hope for humankind!

sorry, Hula and Bozza....and all those unjustly maligned . Nobboidism is certainly not a regional characteristic!

The Dss take a water bottle, filled into school every day. there are also two water fountains, whcih they can use to refill their bottles if they have drunk all the water, or go, (on a toilet trip for example) and have a cup of water. They get milk at break and can take anything they like into school for their lunchtime drink.
Theone thing i do find odd though is that the school won't let children take in empty water bottle to fill up at school. Our water was off one day, and all the children from our street and the next took their empty bottles in and the teachers wouldn't let them fill them up at the water fountain. They do provide water bottles, free for the first one, then 1.50 if you need another one

paulaplumpbottom · 30/03/2007 13:19

did they give a reason?

saltire · 30/03/2007 13:22

They say it's because they don't want every child in the school queing up to fill their water bottles at the fountain every morning!
I can see the point, but as a one off, i think they should have made allowances

she is barmy
the women who danced on the rooftops ( heather mills look a likey) had her claim for compensation thrown out, hope this woman does too

donnie · 30/03/2007 13:56

lol at 'nobboid' - what a perfect description of a silly woman. Drink the water or don't drink it - get over yourself ffs!
