Unless you're in Japan, you're safe enough.

TiesThatBindMe · 15/09/2017 04:57

Right well....

I'll start with the Lord blessing and saving us.

Then I'll do a speech about penance for launching nukes.

We can end then with a prayer for our enemies.

How does that sound?

123MothergotafleA · 15/09/2017 05:02

I haven't heard a better plan from any of the usual suspects yet Ties! so away you go with your Service.
I'm in.

Firefries · 15/09/2017 05:06

It's true that there is very little we can do. I suppose we can hope our leaders make some quick and good decisions.

StealthPolarBear · 15/09/2017 05:39

Firfries it was on the news at about 11 last night

monicamango · 15/09/2017 07:05

I read the news about the missile in the night while feeding my newborn then went on to dream that I was hired by the government to assassinate Kim Jong un 😎

cuirderussie · 15/09/2017 07:14

I probably should worry but I remember the Cold War which seemed scarier.

user327854831 · 15/09/2017 07:38

I remember the Cold War too, it was very scary but I think this is more so - we didn't have a country with a lunatic in charge then.

StealthPolarBear · 15/09/2017 09:36

There have always been lunatics in charge if countries

user327854831 · 16/09/2017 05:45

Yes...just the levels of lunacy seem higher at the moment. I think the levels in the current POTUS are higher than they have been for some time.

user327854831 · 23/09/2017 15:11

It looks like they are launching/have launched another missile

edition.cnn.com/2017/09/23/asia/north-korea-seismic-activity/index.html

prh47bridge · 23/09/2017 19:50

A missile launch won't cause seismic activity. It could be another nuclear bomb test.

user327854831 · 23/09/2017 20:00

yes, that's what I meant - but I think they will launch another test one before much longer if Trump carries on like this.

I wonder what is going to happen now that China have upped the ante - all I can think is that the humanitarian disaster in NK is going to get much, much worse.

wildworlds · 23/09/2017 20:23

What are China saying, i mean will they reign Kim in.

user327854831 · 23/09/2017 20:42

They are now enforcing the UN sanctions so are limiting the oil supply, though it doesn't cover crude oil (why?) so it might have a limited impact. They are not accepting exports of textiles either.

LurkingHusband · 25/09/2017 16:36

BBC newsflash that NK has accused the US of "declaring war"

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-41391978

squishysquirmy · 25/09/2017 16:53

I think that the situation is very worrying, BUT even in a worse case scenario, I can't see us being directly affected in the UK - NK bombing US territory and being obliterated by the US is not the same as GLOBAL thermonuclear war.

It will still be an unspeakably horrible event - many innocent lives would be destroyed, countless others would suffer horrific injuries, and the wider political and economic effects would be felt by us all.

But NK does not have the capability to destroy the world, and unless China/Russia retaliate with all their strength against the West (and why would they?) a US strike on NK will not destroy the world either (they have the capability, but they also have the capability to obliterate NK without triggering nuclear winter, so would take the latter option.)

"In any case it doesn't matter where the bombs go, the effect on the whole planet would be devastating"

This is not true. I am very anti nuclear-weapons, but it is not the case that any nuke anywhere will devastate the world. Look at how many we have unleashed already, during the cold war (look up the Tsar Bomba!)
