What am I missing OP? Just seen that DT is spouting off again, is he threatening something imminently?

aftersomeadvice23 · 08/08/2017 22:14

Trump has warned if they threaten again there will be "fire and fury like the world has never seen".
I know i do worry too much and should stay away from the news

From what I've just read it seems the Washington Post have spun a story and Trump and his PR team have picked up on it, followed by uk news. There are no reports of any imminent attacks. I wouldn't worry OP, I understand anxiety can be crippling and I'm still feeling on edge since we had all the terrorist attacks close together a couple of months ago, like waiting for another one to happen anytime, it is gradually fading though. Hope you feel better soon

aftersomeadvice23 · 08/08/2017 22:25

Thank you.

I was the same with the terror attacks too, i know i shouldn't worry so much - it's hard but thanks for your kind words

It is abit worrying because Trump seems so stupid and seems to have knee jerk angry reactions to stuff. He doesn't seem like he's sane enough to be allowed the choice of nukeing someone.

Dd is going to china in a couple of weeks and I'm just hoping nothing kicks off while she's there!

Newtssuitcase · 09/08/2017 06:55

There does seem to have been a step up in the past few hours. It is worrying given the two people in charge.

StealthPolarBear · 09/08/2017 06:56

From what I've been reading trump might be a positive in this situation. They might be nervous about antagonising someone do unpredictable and unstable

SoPassRemarkable · 09/08/2017 07:04

stealthpolarbear. I did wonder that, that if Obama was still in charge would North Korea be pushing it further as more confident he wouldn't react?

Hopefully it's all just more sabre rattling.

Ifailed · 09/08/2017 07:08

North Korea won't do anything really stupid. Pretty sure China's Ministry of State Security will have plenty of people keeping an eye on things from the inside, and if there was any chance that N Korea was about to launch a viable nuke they would move in and occupy, probably only take a few days to do it.

StealthPolarBear · 09/08/2017 07:09

That in itself is worrying

CauliflowerSqueeze · 09/08/2017 07:13

Where does NK get its money from to do these tests, when about 90% of the country is in abject poverty?

SoPassRemarkable · 09/08/2017 07:17

They prioritise their weapons programme over feeding their people.

Bufferingkisses · 09/08/2017 07:20

Op, I suffered badly with anxiety several years ago. I'm better now, not perfect but improved. One of the things that made a genuine difference was stepping away from the news and concentrating only on things thst I could actively change/improve/influence in some way.

On strong days I'd have a brief online catch up but otherwise I focused close to home.

It really did help because my energy was focused in the right places and I had enough of it to be able to act on things that bothered me. That lead to me seeing positive changes which, in turn, gave me that feeling of being in control of my life and able to deal with the anxiety properly.

There is nothing we can do about so much going on in the world at the moment. Give yourself a holiday from it Flowers

TitsalinaBumSquash · 09/08/2017 08:43

Can anyone tell me in basic terms why NK are wanting to build these weapons and take on the USA? forgive my ignorance, I'm trying to learn!

StealthPolarBear · 09/08/2017 09:34

Me too tits. I suspect the answer will be because they can

NYConcreteJungle · 09/08/2017 11:27

I am not surprised to hear this has brought on anxiety. What can you do about it other than LIVE in the moment.

MarjorySunshineDust · 09/08/2017 12:04

Thid is a subject that has a tendency to flare up my anxiety too. I've been making an effort to avoid news and it really helps. I do what Buffering suggests and just have a quick scan when I can handle it. I also have an app/website blocker for the times I get a bit obsessive. Also, someone posted a link to this blog in a similar thread recently and I find it quite reassuring.

Ever read 1984? The population of N Korea are constantly being told of the threat from SK, the USA etc. and therefore the need for vigilance and development of weapons to defend NK from these terrible enemies. Luckily they have the ruling Kim family to guide them through these awful times.

Newtssuitcase · 10/08/2017 05:59

There's quite a good article on the BBC website setting out why it's not time to panic (yet).

Even so, this doesn't seem to be settling down. Difficult to see how the US can do anything but react if they fire missiles at Guam.

user53592952153 · 10/08/2017 06:07

I'm worrying about it to, along with the future of my children as we wait for a level and gcse results, as I struggle with being a single parent and being poor and lonely. Life is shit.

TheaSaurass · 10/08/2017 14:52

"Even so, this doesn't seem to be settling down. Difficult to see how the US can do anything but react if they fire missiles at Guam."

While N Korea say that they will fire missiles at Guam with 3-6,000 U.S. military and non military citizens within, to stop short, and they don't, the President will be blamed - as when a leader has even given notice of an attack, the President would have failed on one of his oaths - to protect his citizens.

Wasn't there recently evidence that America possesses electronic kit to interfere with N Korean missiles once launched, as while nuclear war heads may not explode on impact, conventional warheads might - resulting in N Koreans being blown up by their own hardware.

Anyway if N.Korea does fire missiles (with war heads unknown) and seen to be on a Guam trajectory, I suspect that there will have to be a U.S. 'surgical' strike to take out what else they have, but based on how many missiles and conventional weapons that can fire fire battlefield nuclear weapons (aimed at S.Korea) Kim has - unfortunately for the military of N Korea, it can't be that 'surgical'.

Life is a lot worse for many on the planet than us, in a democracy with clean water, toilets , free speech, and education and healthcare for all.

scottishllama · 08/09/2017 01:24

Also really worried and beginning to completely panic about this. I wish leaders would just wrestle out their problems with each other rather than making the rest of us suffer for their war games.

Sad
SerfTerf · 08/09/2017 01:31

I found this for nervy young friend earlier. It's forom newsround but it's a nice clear graphic.

Worried about North Korea
scottishllama · 08/09/2017 08:42

Would like to see the other side of that glove though, where the EU is. A video I saw on twitter yesterday definitely included the UK. In any case it doesn't matter where the bombs go, the effect on the whole planet would be devastating.

Feeling a bit less panicked now it's morning at least...
