Not sure if that link was working. There is nothing here that corresponds with that.

UNLESS someone has decided a human side to it would be good. And while I don't disagree with it, I think it's best just left alone. No articles, no from the frontline pieces. Everyone and his uncle has already had their say. Although I can see that it would have been immensely frustrating to say nothing for months on end working in close proximity. But yeah, I think not necessary now.
Re the foundation it will be a great shame if it doesn't benefit some children, be it for funding treatment that has a viable chance of success, or research into mitochondrial disorders.

leghoul · 05/08/2017 21:31

And re flat- I can believe that they wouldnt have been back much. I know it sounds unbelievable but I only went home once or twice when my child was in PICU and had a call from the hospital while I was gone asking where I was as they'd got my child out to hold and I wasnt there so it can be very hard to leave. After that I only went home to move house, which was in retrospect a total waste of time. Also his stuff wouldnt fit him and they wouldnt need much of it once in hospital. I suspect a pack of bags for them so a few trips home would have been it, genuinely.

Piffpaffpoff · 05/08/2017 21:33

If I was a comms manager at GOSH (and I'm not btw!) I would be looking for some relatively 'hands off' way to get the staff's POV out there and this Guardian piece seems ideal. They only need to do it once but for the sake of the team, their professional reputation and their feelings, their side needs to be heard somehow.

derxa · 05/08/2017 21:35

Derxa do not believe anything in the DM. That comment says it all. I have my own views which have nothing to do with the DM.
Thanks

lifebook · 05/08/2017 21:35

leghoul I was thinking more of the family going back rather than them, can imagine C&C not returning.

derxa, you do seem to post some quite anti GOSH comments which of course is your right but I don't understand what you base them on?

I have been on all of the threads and you were saying that you were stopping your donations to GOSH because of how the parents were treated.

Do you still think that they were treated badly now that the court case has revealed the true timeline?

derxa · 05/08/2017 21:43

I believe in human fallibility. I don't believe that GOSH is the greatest hospital in the world. I believe the the parents were patronised because they were working class. I still donate to GOSH because it might save a child's life.

Chestervase1 · 05/08/2017 22:06

Derxa I agree with you. CC did not mention that GOSH had provided a flat for them did they. I thought they were travelling back and forth from their home to hospital and court.

Sostenueto · 05/08/2017 22:06

Derxa no one is perfect yes your right, bear that in mi d when next you try to insult me.pffffft.

Sostenueto · 05/08/2017 22:12

I couldn't care what class the parents were IMO and it is IMO they did things I would not. But they did what they felt was right/wrong and bloody class had nothing to do with it Derxa.

Sostenueto · 05/08/2017 22:14

P.s. GOSH did what was right for Charlie and everybody else can take a hike as far as I am concerned.

lifebook · 05/08/2017 22:21

Working class???? ffs.

No they were not travelling backwards and forwards from home every day. Jeez....

Sostenueto · 05/08/2017 22:29

But don't worry with medical advances the human race will be able to choose how intelligent, looks, colouring and even behaviour of our children thus rendering the evolution of our species completely finished. With the advances of medical science in the last 100 years we have put a stop to our natural evolution. That is why our brains have not developed further and will not develop further. Mother nature alone determines real evolution, the survival of the fittest. But we not only interfere with our planet, we now interfere directly with nature. By not allowing natural ways we are effectively making our own species extinct. And just because we can cure this that and the other dies not mean we should. But it will go on and on and on cos we surely cannot face death.

Sostenueto · 05/08/2017 22:34

Even now with global warming happening our species will not be ready or be able to adapt. Why? Because we are too busy interfering with our own DNA.

Dustbunny1900 · 05/08/2017 22:52

So am I right in feeling that blaming hirano (for supposedly single handedly keeping the parents hopes up and telling them their son had a chance to be a normal boy) may not be completely fair ? He obviously wasnt very good with the "people aspect" of the job but I feel like they may have taken his "theoretically possible for some improvement" comments and run with them?
Or am I way off base.

lifebook · 05/08/2017 22:56

I am sure it will be a mixture of both Dust.

yolofish · 06/08/2017 00:01

I'm really glad to find you all here, because CG is still playing on my mind. Read the Sun article today (shame on me) and I was pretty much appalled by it. I suspect there will be a book by Christmas, and perhaps a film too, all of which will perpetuate the David (C&C) and Goliath (GOSH) myth. I do feel strongly that there should be a way for organisations like GOSH to defend themselves in public, but I dont know how this would work in terms of patient confidentiality.

I believe if you strip all the chit chat away from this case, you have 3 very sad aspects and a ethical dilemma.

  1. C&C took home a beautiful, healthy baby, that a few months on is diagnosed with a life limiting condition. I think denial is a natural reaction, they just never moved on from that. (Here I have to ask, where where the health professionals, friends and family who should have supported C&C).
  2. Social media... it was to easy to shout out very loud and drown out any common sense and reason. To me it feels, because they shouted the loudest, they must be right. Something has to be done about taking certain cases/ partitions onto these platforms. After all it is very biased because the other party could not "shout" back. - And who in their right mind would want to get into a shouting match on such a scale?
  3. controversial, I know... if the court would have allowed this experimental treatment, would that not have opened a loophole for other experimental treatments? Wouldn't there have been future terminally ill human beings open to medical abuse by the very people who have sworn an oath to help not harm?

I hope, once everything has calmed down, we as an internet society can reflect, see reason and protect the ones that can't defend themselves.
