BUT, everyone, you gotta hand it to frogs and toads. We've just fished some spawn out of our pond (not sure if it's frog or toad yet) and the quantity is about 4/5 times the body mass of your average frog/toad.

That's like us giving birth to a Mini (now there's an idea!)

lol @ Califrau's ex-MIL being the biggest problem in Australia.

eidsvold · 28/03/2007 10:44

they are a pest introduced to get rid of the cane beetle - only prob - toad lives on ground, beetle lives in cane stalks. Like most introduced species - they are now prolific.

As someone else said - lots of worse things to worry about than cane toads ( says a proud queenslander cane toad )

Oh no!!!
Still, at least there is the Pacific Ocean between you!

Gingerbear · 28/03/2007 18:20

I will now forever have a picture of a giant cane toad in my mind whenever Califrau's MIL is mentioned on MN....

giddyfeet · 29/03/2007 00:38

Oh please, that toad is not the size of a dog! Enlarge the picture. Its just a bit bigger than the mans hands - a tiny cat maybe!

I've been to Aus twice, and travelled 3 states and have never come across creepy crawlies of any kind! I see more spiders in my bathroom here in the south of england in the middle of winter!

I think people who avoid Aus on the basis of its 'wildlife' are really missing out on a beautiful and fantastic country.

I'd emigrate tomorrow if I had the points to back up an application!

(And I am the biggest scaredy cat you'll ever meet when it comes spiders etc)

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 29/03/2007 00:43

I could live with the toad tis the spiders that put me off"

monkeytrousers · 29/03/2007 00:45

Kane toads are the least of your problems once global warming kicks in.

There's a fab documetory about Cane toads - anyone else seen it - I cen't remember what it was called?

twentypence · 29/03/2007 00:51

Surely it's a reason not to go to Hawaii rather than Oz.

giddyfeet · 29/03/2007 01:02

Thats a good point, twentypence!

I'm desperate to visit Hawaii, its the money that puts me off more than the toads though to be fair!
