Issues raised by the CG case 11

Venusflytwat · 17/07/2017 18:30

This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

Sostenueto Telegraph has reported it [here](www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/07/17/charlie-gards-parents-optimistic-new-brain-scan/amp/), further down it states that an EEG was done on sunday

Ta1kinPeace · 17/07/2017 21:24

TBH I assumed that EEGs were being done regularly as they are relatively easy and show whether the brain cells are reacting to stimuli

GabsAlot · 17/07/2017 21:25

i agree somones opnion isnt evidence how can he possibly overturn three appeals based on an opinion?

eveyone will start running to court over an opinion an quote this case

PortiaCastis · 17/07/2017 21:26

Didn't realise the Telegraph was privy to personal medical notes

GabsAlot · 17/07/2017 21:26

ta1kin as far as we are aware the parents have blocked all tests

jinglejanglejobs · 17/07/2017 21:26

Ta1kinPeace article says it's the first EEG since March

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:27

Oh thanks jingkejangl

SocksBoatsAndQats · 17/07/2017 21:27

Gosh I hope this all comes to a peaceful conclusion.

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:28

Oh thanks jingkejangle x

jinglejanglejobs · 17/07/2017 21:28

Telegraph will have a family member or the pastor or similar leaking that an EEG has been done most likely, although the family member wont know the results and they legally won't be able to say anything until the court judgement.

PortiaCastis · 17/07/2017 21:28

They want bloody suing

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:28

Yes the parents stopped all scans.

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:30

The judge will go barmy for this stuff to have been leaked! Yes how do they know results? The telegraph I mean?

PortiaCastis · 17/07/2017 21:32

Its disgusting and I hope the judge does something about it

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:32

Maybe judge ordered their fb to be closed?

PortiaCastis · 17/07/2017 21:33

In which case all social media will have to watch it

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:33

Anyway the parents would not allow him to be scanned which is NOT gosh fault!

jinglejanglejobs · 17/07/2017 21:34

Telegraph won't know the results (very easy to know if a child has had an EEG, very difficult to know the results, particularly before tomorrow), but I'm assuming C+C are optimistic if they're allowing an EEG at all. Question is whether they'll allow an MRI as well, which Hirano will most certainly want.

TinselTwins · 17/07/2017 21:34

Yes the parents stopped all scans.

I don't understand how that could be true given the circumstances?

Ta1kinPeace · 17/07/2017 21:37

Didn't realise the Telegraph was privy to personal medical notes
Yup, judge is very unlikely to let that one wash past him .....

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:37

They did stop them cos the judge asked in court about it.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 17/07/2017 21:38

The Express article mentioned that the US doctor insisted there be fresh scans - although considering their headline not sure how much credence should be given!

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 21:40

Well if it turns out to be a positive for brain activity there may be a very very slim chance for Charlie but the parents can't blame Gosh because they would not allow scans which would have helped Gosh decide.

Deux · 17/07/2017 21:42

The Telegraph are reporting that the parents are 'optimistic'.
