All the talk this morning seems to be that it is between Greenwich and Blackpool.

I agree with Marina that it shouldn't be happening at all.

uwila · 30/01/2007 11:05

Ah, Manchester. Cool. Thanks for the breaking news. Not on bbc.co.uk yet.

Neither do I NP - there's a cool casino place in Manchester (forgotten the name now - is it Manchester265?) and it's full of 'professionals' really.

I think it should be in Blackpool.

JoolsToo · 30/01/2007 11:07

*MANCHESTER????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

itsmeNDP · 30/01/2007 11:07

It's going to be Manchester ?

Where ?

I really don't think that Manchester will benefit from another casino, super or otherwise

nailpolish · 30/01/2007 11:07

have you ever been to a casino? ive been to a couple and its full of ordinary people having a night out

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 30/01/2007 11:08

pubs encourage addiction and crime, you've only got to go down town on a friday night to see all the drunks piling out of the pub for a punch up, and yet I don't see anyone saying that pubs shouldn't exist because they encourage addiction.

oliveoil · 30/01/2007 11:08

MANCHESTER???

WHERE??

ffs

nailpolish · 30/01/2007 11:09

casinos are actually brilliant places fora night out
the one here has great food and you dont even have to go near the tables, there are even children there sometimes, esp since the smoking ban

I think the idea of the cassinoes being full of gangster types comes from the movies tbh. I've been to cassinoes and they're just full of ordinary people.

Manchester? I thought it was between London and Blackpool!

There is already a casino in Manchester - Manchester265 - and it's not in the least bit seedy.

SodWork · 30/01/2007 11:10

Well you're missing out Cod. It's a 100x better than London for a start.

itsmeNDP · 30/01/2007 11:10

Yes I have, np. Dull and depressing and lots of gaudy nylon uniformed croupiers was my experience (was a casino on Salford Quays, Manc). Not to mention all those tragic slot machine junkies. The ones who can be seen hanging around in the local amusement arcarde for hours on end during the day

oliveoil · 30/01/2007 11:11

cod isn't in london

she lives under a mushroom in Yokelville

SodWork · 30/01/2007 11:11

Naily are you talking about in Manchester? The one in Manchester has a couple of really smart restaurants in it and a strict dress code.

MegaLegs · 30/01/2007 11:11

I wouldn't say ban pubs but wbwiwb you provide a prime example of a current social problem the government has yet to combat. Introducing a casino, with the potential to create more social and economic problems seems wrong to me.

itsmeNDP · 30/01/2007 11:11

Cod, why so anti-Manchester ?

ndp, the one here is v classy, no crappy slot machines, a great place for a night out, nice food, you can play on the tables next door if you like, full of ordinary people, you have been going to the wrong one

I've been to a casino once, it was a girls night out when i worked in cardiff. i didn't spend anything and simply enjoyed the wednesday night promotion they had (£3.50 for steak n chips) and had a larf at all the lonely looking (mainly of chinese origin) men losing money joylessly
