Anyone else heard this? Apparantly the Bishop of Southwark got caught tired and emotional and setting a bad example to binge-Britain.

Call me immature, but . There's something automatically funny about a pissed bish. Especially at this time of year.

BBC has covered it very discreetly here

MP, there are quite a few gunning for him because of his 'liberal' views. There's been some problem with some evangelicals in his diocese declaring themselves beyond his authority because of his 'non-biblical' beliefs, hasn't there? (Trying to remember what I read in Church Times) It's frightening how successful the conservatives are at getting their way atm and I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to use this to bring him down.

Reminds me why I no longer belong to the CofE!

"pope bashing is not the same thing as anti religion"

neither is bashing the bishop.... but I beleive it's considered a bit naughty though.

I tend to be quite fond of CofE bishops actually. The one's I've met gave been pleasant, innoffensive people. I think that pleasant inoffensiveness is an underrated virtue these days. I like the way everyone refers to them by their first names...ie the Bish of Bath and Wells is currently 'Bishop Jim' I beleive...or that may have been the last one ..not sure. But it always makes me laugh...

totally agree with you they are often lovely NOELallie, my comment about pope bashing was in response to 'I find the Guardian very anti-religion. They like nothing better than a bit of pope bashing.' imo thi smakes them anti pope not anti religion

You are right. I was trying to be funny. The comic potential of all this talk of the bashing of ecclesiastical authority figures was irresistible. Sorry
