I think the Sun will be drip feeding this all week. Sadly I don't think politicians ever learn, after all so far he has resigned from Committees but not from the Lords - and they can't sack him.

How long ago was this film taken? If it was 20 years ago, then it's irrelevant to anything and just the Sun muck-spreading.

More interesting, imo, is the film released this morning of Lord S bad-mouthing Cameron.

I also wonder what effect the prostitute/coke video will have on the Lords' attitude to drug-taking in general, and the utter waste of time/resources of the War On Drugs. Minuscule, a drop in the ocean, but yet another drop joining all the others eventually becomes a tide, then a flood.

Jux I thought it was all the same film and very recent - and he slags off several other politicians too. What annoyed me was he says the £200 he paid for the prostitute was his lunch allowance.
Right - apparently they can get rid of him - but I guess he will be allowed to resign and keep his pension.

As for "we're all in this together", that's a Conservative mantra, Lord Sewer is a Labour Lord's policeman of Lords excesses who has been asked to step down from Deputy Speaker etc - so I guess we can treat any comments about Conservatives (or anyone else for that matter) from a man with his integrity, with a pinch of white powder salt.

The Labour Common's Speaker in charge of expenses/excesses during that debacle was Mick Martin, who was alleged to by prosecuted Labour MP's in court to have encouraged over claiming - and was the first Speaker since god knows when to be asked to step down and was made a Baron or something or other, for his services.

A sacking 'in this together' win-double.

Using hookers, even spending your Lords claimed lunch money on hookers, is not against the law - even if he was 'living on the fruits of love' - for those that have heard the honeymoon couple staying at a farm and not coming out for days, joke.

Fat old geezers impersonating Cher can't even get the fashion police involved.

It is of course his near six figure salary for a senior position as Deputy Speaker and a Lords policeman and his ability to function if having an illegal cocain addiction that makes his job untenable.

I believe most Lords only get the daily attendance allowance of 300 squids if/when they attend, I didn't think they get a a designated 200 squid allowance he mentioned, for lunch.

Maybe his position means he gets the salary AND a £200 lunch allowance which is a bit steep; maybe they should give it in Luncheon Vouchers, or maybe they do and thats what he rolled up to snort with.

Peers, aristocracy, drugs, prostitutes. Same old story. Lord Rochester set the bar but in this day and age these people don't seem to know what will happen when they get caught. Will be v.happy to see him leave his grace and favour flat and lose his central London parking privileges. His wife prob.knew anyway but of course they are now humiliated

redshoe I didn't know when they film had been taken - I'd not seen the news or had time to look this up anywhere. DH told me of it - laughing greatly - but he didn't know any details; he just thought it was hilarious but wasn't interested in the details. So, thanks for saying Thanks, otherwise I still wouldn't know!

A good old fashioned expose with desperate sad old guy cavorting and romping with two prostitutes - who apparently stole the tenner he used to snort coke the last time they met. This time he used a fiver.

He didn't resign. He took temporary leave that he can recind at any time. He has done this to deflect pressure to resign. He can't be expelled from the Lords unless he is found to have breached the Lords rules which explicitly do not cover the private lives of members.

His expenses comment was misleading. As Deputy Speaker he was salaried and couldn't claim expenses so his remark that he used expenses to pay for the night was some weird joke.
