I despise the man and everything he stands for, in fact I had stated long before he was convicted that he was well known to be a vile unpleasant creep in the town where my ILs lived and was shouted down at the time. But I am dubious about the authenticity of this letter. Not that I don't think that he wouldn't have the capacity to voice such thoughts, but something about the fact that it's been written from prison, in a smug manner, sent to a friend who has then passed it to the daily mail just doesn't seem right.

If the friend was that appalled why did they not go to the police? the prison authorities? It would then have been easier to have RH stopped from writing this kind of stuff while in prison. Why go to the Daily Mail?

I can't help wondering whether this 'friend' wants to continue the victim blaming by having this letter published. Because the victims would read it and see the words, not the shock on its release iyswim.

It should never have been published IMO and if the friend was that appalled they wouldn't have remained anonymous - if someone I knew wrote that kind of crap to me I would want to personally distance myself. I'm not sure the friend is as appalled as they claim to be, and reckon they share rh's agenda.

redshoeblueshoe · 15/06/2015 16:29

Maybe his friend thought that the police have ignored too much over the years, Saville, Jenner. If it was made up RH's solicitors would have been all over the media threatening to sue the press. I always felt his daughter's stance was purely to protect her inheritance.

SELF OPINIONATED BOMBASTIC RHETORIC..................................HAS THE MAN NO SHAME?????? SERIOUSLY FOLKS IF ANYONE ANYWHERE HAD ANY DOUBT ABOUT HIS GUILT HE HAS JUST CONFIRMED IT....................MAY HE ROT IN HELL AND THEN SOME.......

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 15/06/2015 18:00

Well I'm personally thankful that whoever sent that letter did so - because next time someone tries to use Rolf Harris as an example of PC gone mad and a great injustice I can point to it and say "oh the man who admits to raping 10 year olds in his song?" Hopefully it will force people to see that Operation Yewtree is about getting justice for victims not a witchhunt which is how it often gets characterised.

laflaca · 15/06/2015 18:10

His letter highlights the difference between his public and private persona. He groomed the public into believing he was avuncular, lovable Rolf, when in fact he was the very opposite. Chilling.

wannaBe · 15/06/2015 18:11

Oh I don't think there's any doubt over his guilt, and anyone who doubted that probably wouldn't be swayed by this letter anyway.

I just don't see that it has benefited anyone by publishing it, and has just given RH a platform to continue to blame his victims, in fact his friend has given that to him. So I have as little respect for the friend (I never have had any for the daily mail) as I do for rh.

Icimoi · 15/06/2015 18:11

I would have thought that if the letter was not authentic then someone speaking on Harris' behalf would have said so. I haven't heard anything about any reaction from them, has anyone else?

ChickenLaVidaLoca · 15/06/2015 21:19

Trash.

038THETA · 15/06/2015 23:27

imo the letter just makes him look deluded, completely lacking insight and unable to see how he looks to other people.

With it he just digs and even bigger hole for himself as far as I can see.

The whole story does seem a bit weird and I wonder if it is genuine?

SophieHatters · 16/06/2015 10:38

I think it is a really fucking terrible song.

It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, and neither does the bloke who wrote it IMO.

I found it hard to believe he was capable of being horrible AT ALL before all this. Now I can see it of course.

Not a very smart move to basically admit what you did in black and white is it. And not even a brave one in this instance.

The man is a bastard.

SophieHatters · 16/06/2015 10:39

and I have to say before seeing this letter, I was sort of still a little bit in denial about it.

Now I am very firmly decided. I should imagine everyone else who has read this repugnant thing feels the same.

TwerkingSpinster · 16/06/2015 13:26

I'm pretty sure mumsnet could pen a nice song in reply, maybe something like...(to the tune of tie me kangaroo down)

No parole for the peado
No parole for you now
Your crimes have sickened a nation
And that's why you've been sent down.

038THETA · 16/06/2015 14:17

trouble is he would probably be gratified by any kind of response, perhaps it is better to treat him with complete contempt and not engage directly with his communications

SophieHatters · 16/06/2015 14:27

Don't tempt me. I am on the brink of writing something terrible. I might have written various things including Per Una based poetry in the past but don't think even I want to go there.

tictactoad · 16/06/2015 14:35

He is an utter piece of shit.

If the authorities can't make him stay in for every minute of his sentence, I hope his victims take him for every penny they can.

MayPolist · 19/06/2015 23:43

Maybe the friend got paid for the letter

LazyLouLou · 20/06/2015 16:21

Icimoi I know what you mean. Him and Stuart Hall... both such a large part of my growing up... Hall was the one that shocked me most... Yech!

LazyLouLou · 20/06/2015 16:24

Quietattheback

Not really the best song to quote as his true colours are neither the reason anyone loves him nor beautiful, like a rainbow.

BonnieNoClyde · 22/06/2015 00:42

awful, awful man. He sneers at them for being 'not so pretty now'.

their only value was prettiness. and now they're worthless. as big chocc says, it does reveal how a paedophile thinks, they were just objects for his gratification indeed, and he is angry at them.

I hope he loses all his money to compensation.
