I linked the BBC article about this earlier today to the most recent thread I could find that was mainly about BH.

I don't think anyone's posted on it since, though.

I just don't think people here appreciate the size of territory under their control, nor that it is spilling out internationally, nor how similar it is to ISIS. And no-one seems to find it newsworthy, except for the incidents which affect only girls.

I have been reading about it on news sites today - I haven't started a thread because what do you say about it?

What's going on is bloody awful, me coming on here saying that doesn't help.
I have no idea what would help.

I think people have reached a point where we are seeing this kind of stuff everyday and we are just turning off because we don't know what else to do.

I don't think it's desensitised more that it just seems so hopeless. What can we do about this situation? I doubt if they are going to take much notice of a twitter campaign.

Anything will overtake it in the news rankings. I bet it's on Al Jezeera, though. Journalists can't get anywhere near the fighting (or lack of it, from the army, in many cases) so the story has no verifiable content. The Nigerian army needs to pull its finger out. I've seen a report that Boko Haram has 9000 fighters. If that's true the Nigerians don't have a moment to lose.

Are the Nigerian schoolgirls who were kidnapped by BH still being held?

A cynic might suggest the fact that they are allegedly supported by Saudi Arabia may have something to do with the news black out.

Extremism in Africa never gets reported as extensively as it does in other continents.

The atrocities carried out by the likes of al shabaab doesn't seem to be covered by anyone other than Al Jazeera.
