Saudi Arabia is a hugely important ally of the West. Some cynic is suggesting that if the Saudis are supporting Boko Haram and are interested in their success, then western governments have an interest in hushing the whole thing up. Personally, I doubt it. You hear very little about all African/Arab militant groups, al shebab, the original al qaeda, the Lord's Resistance Army etc, etc. So, it's not so surprising that little is heard in the West about this group either. It's normal.

One reason is:

A lot of attacks are prioritised according to the news corporations in the west depending on the level of political and business interest.

Another reason is:

Nigeria, as with many other African countries, does not have the same " national protest" approach that was seen in France, with people standing together against terrorists, because of the unknown political ties that government have with factious groups. This was seen in Rawanda, and many against the atrocities were killed for showing solidarity.
The news within many African countries is not as "instantaneous" as in Europe. A lot is censored by the government as to what can be broadcasted on radio or tv; and so people cannot/ do not immediately mobilise protest groups due to a trickle down approach of information.
