I was wondering why Prince Andrew was not on the news thread. It's on all the front pages of the papers today.

I find Buckingham Palace statements rather irritating. Very closed ranks! And how would they know if he's innocent or not. His arm around the girl's her bare mid drift isn't a great sign.

Libby Purves, in a Times column headlined “Dimwit Andrew needs to come out fighting”, argues that the “poor sap” prince is a victim of his own stupidity. She writes:

“He should have known better than to befriend Epstein, let alone have the muttonheaded loyalty to stroll publicly with him after his release from prison...

It doesn't matter whether the Palace knows or not. The press assistant who writes, Yup, he's guilty as hell, is going to be copying out her CV at the same time. If I had a whole press department, I'd be using it, too!

I' suggesting that PA was intended in this comment
but when Louis Theroix was interviewing JS and mentioned child abuse JS responded by telling him to be careful because members of the RF would be implicated and his solicitors wouldn't be happy with the questions, words to this effect.
Wish I'd taken more notice now.

I have no sympathy for any of them. If they and him had any integrity they would get him to tell the truth. He was very very close to Epstein and must now answer questions about his involvement with a convicted paedophile.

Some of the royals really do seem to surround themselves with a very strange selection of friends and advisors. I remember thinking that during the Diana inquest, when her closer circle was laid out in public.

You are assuming he isn't. To put it another way, you won't believe anything he says, however true it may be, unless it accords with what you believe is true.

You could criticise him for his friendship with Epstein. However, as someone who has been involved in child protection for years, I know there is a good chance that most of the contributors to mumsnet are friends with at least one child sex offender without being aware of it.

You could criticise him for remaining loyal to Epstein for too long. It is not uncommon for people to remain loyal to friends when they would, perhaps, be better advised to drop them.

As for the allegations made by the woman, some of the reporting has not been very clear. The USA does not have a single age of consent. It varies from state to state. On the woman's own evidence it appears she was over the age of consent in all the locations where the alleged encounters took place.

Hmmmm...stat or profile wise, is there anyone we should be looking out for e.g. bald headed men with goatees, as hardly a conversation starter at dinner parties.

They can be young, old or middle aged; married, single or living together; parents or childless; fat or thin; good looking or ugly; male or female... In other words it could be anyone. They are definitely not the slightly creepy individuals usually depicted in TV dramas.

The only thing you can say for sure about a child sex offender is that they will be good with children and very plausible. Exactly the kind of person you would trust to look after your child, run a youth club or whatever. Which makes it pretty much impossible to distinguish them from the people you really can trust to look after your child, etc. Which, in turn, is why there is so much emphasis on safeguarding measures such as ensuring no adult is ever alone with a child when people are working with children, either paid or voluntary.

He looks quite uncomfortable today at his first public appearence - nervously texting on his phone as he walks, avoiding press questions. Hard not feel sorry for him - he looks like a baby.

Still I hope the truth comes out whatever it is. And if this woman is telling the truth I hope she gets some justice.

An easy way to find out is to ask her if she 'sucks toe', apparently it is prerequisite in that household, and if she don't, he is certainly innocent. IMO.

Why would anyone feel sorry for him??! He's a talentless, over pampered, over protected Prince with extremely bad judgement. He deserves to be probed by the media if he hands or with questionable individuals. He needs to tell the truth about what happened, even if the truth is that he did not have anything to do with the girl (which we know isn't true).

So? He has not denied meeting her. Since Andrew's movements are public knowledge I'm sure her lawyers would have ensured the dates matched before submitting her claims. And just to reiterate, on her own evidence she was not underage in the locations where the alleged encounters took place.

I am happy to see him squirm. The man is a parasitical buffoon who has taken the taxpayer for a ride for years.

I have no idea of the truth of the allegations against him but it doesn't look as if they're going away.
