You are assuming he isn't. To put it another way, you won't believe anything he says, however true it may be, unless it accords with what you believe is true.
You could criticise him for his friendship with Epstein. However, as someone who has been involved in child protection for years, I know there is a good chance that most of the contributors to mumsnet are friends with at least one child sex offender without being aware of it.
You could criticise him for remaining loyal to Epstein for too long. It is not uncommon for people to remain loyal to friends when they would, perhaps, be better advised to drop them.
As for the allegations made by the woman, some of the reporting has not been very clear. The USA does not have a single age of consent. It varies from state to state. On the woman's own evidence it appears she was over the age of consent in all the locations where the alleged encounters took place.
