Nigel Farage Taken Apart in Landmark LBC Radio Interview with James O’Brien

UKIP leader Nigel Farage must now regret his decision to challenge LBC Radio’s James O’Brien to a debate today over the broadcaster’s criticisms of the party . In a dazzling example of gloves-off political interview technique, O’Brien came armed to the teeth with awkward questions that left Farage floundering. We need more of this.

Thing is sedgewick that women being sexually assaulted isn't that much of a big deal. Necessary collateral damage to getting rid of the "elite". And besides, all men do it. Farage said so.

DeviTheGaelet · 04/01/2017 07:49

Dropping the sarcasm now. It is so depressing that even when someone admits themselves they are a sexual predator, even when the method of their admitting it is because they see assaulting women as nothing wrong, and their entitlement, people need the assaults proving in a court of law before they will accept any impact on that man's career.
Fuck that. You are basically saying rich men can act with impunity. What a depressing start to the day.

Megatherium · 04/01/2017 07:59

James O'Brien is primarily employed by LBC - which if anything is the Daily Mail of radio.

Trump was furious that a “scalp reduction” operation he’d undergone to eliminate a bald spot had been unexpectedly painful. Ivana had recommended the plastic surgeon. In retaliation, Hurt wrote, Trump yanked out a handful of his wife’s hair, and then forced himself on her sexually. Afterward, according to the book, she spent the night locked in a bedroom, crying; in the morning, Trump asked her, “with menacing casualness, ‘Does it hurt?’ ” ...........the incident, which is detailed in Ivana’s deposition, was confirmed by two of her friends.
Farage's friend.

Also the president of the USA

I use the term "luvvie" not for just an actor but for the Establishment's favourites and that is Alan Johnson through and through, the person the Establishment think will get the people to vote Labour because he is more normal than the rest of the dingbats.

Ah, I see! You make it up as you go along!

"Establishment", like "Elite", also seems to be fluid in your mind. Presumably you just mean "People I don't agree with"?

Sedgewick · 09/01/2017 20:50

Yes, DeviTheGaelet, if Trump has shown anything it's that the rich can act with impunity. But Trump is different from other rich people, from other celebrities.

While we live in a culture where celebrities are hated and lusted after in equal measures, envy is only ever a moment away. Except with Trump.

He is the only one who seems to get to be rich and arrogant - and get away with it.

People called him... "The blue collar billionaire" - how odd. When he was born in the lap of luxury.

His fans are furious with celebrities that speak out against him. Remember Robert De Niro? Go on Facebook and you'll see the reaction his fans (fans is a more accurate description than "supporters") gave...

They derided celebrities for being... .rich...and spoilt...and indignantly said that celebrities were there to entertain not bore people with politics.

That's my polite summary of the furry and hatred his fans felt about celebrities who stood up to Trump. Such, angry, angry people, Trump fans are.

Odd that they forget Trump is a celebrity.
Odd that they forget Trump is wealthy.
Odd that they forget Trump was born to wealth.
Odd that they forget he doesn't pay his taxes.
Odd that they forget he doesn't care about them.

Odd. Odd. Odd.

Closest thing I've seen to brainwashing.

No stranger than that old film The Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Could you have imagined people being so oddly blind, so strange in their behaviour. What has happened to people and why?

Strange times indeed.

I can hardly bring myself to listen to James O'Brien any more. Last week he referred to Theresa May as "prostituting herself with Donald Trump".

He is a nasty, nasty piece of work, one of the Regressive Left. No wonder Ian Katz of Newsnight loves him. WTF has happened to LBC radio anyway? We have only three commonsense presenters - Nawaz, Hopkins and Ferrari - the rest are unremittingly hard Left; I remember when LBC ensured there was a fair mix of presenters' outlooks. LBC began in 1973 but now it is mostly a propaganda tool for the EU.

Sedgewick · 14/02/2017 19:57

Yes, SouthalGirl - James O'Brien is a nasty piece of work. That b*stard is determined to keep fighting for everyone to have a fair slice of the pie.

Evil is what I call it. And how dare he stand up to tax avoiding Trump and Farage and (whisper it) criticise them? How dare O'Brien dare to point out that Theresa May is cosying up to Trump? Who does O'Brien think he is? Well, he's not a tax-avoiding, fraud committing, lying, racist sex pest - which is a damn good start in my book.

But he'll thank you for the compliment, SouthalGirl - because being disliked by someone who refers to the rabid Hopkins as "common sense" can only reflect well on him.

You, my dear, have uncommonly bad judgement

NotYoda · 14/02/2017 19:59

That was very enjoyable. Thanks for linking.

NotYoda · 14/02/2017 20:02

Sedgewick Yes

I can't link at the moment but I would urge everyone to watch John Oliver 'Trump vs Truth' on You Tube. V funny and scary

NotYoda · 15/02/2017 09:04

ammicissima

There was no shouting. That was why it was so effective. I think you might have not listened to the same interview as the rest of the world

Megatherium · 16/02/2017 10:22

How can anyone with working brain cells possibly think Hopkins and Ferrari are "commonsense presenters"? I don't know about Nawaz, I haven't heard him or her. But Hopkins and Ferrari both come over as bullying, bigoted ignoramuses. I particularly loathe the prattish way Ferrari talks over people he disagrees with whilst listening in respectful, fawning silence to the likes of Farage. At least O'Brien gives pratts a fair hearing, and actually that's a much better broadcasting method because it allows them to condemn themselves out of their own mouths.

SapphireStrange · 16/02/2017 14:31

Does James O'B at one point use the term 'reverse-ferreted'? Grin

This is a great interview.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 16/02/2017 14:34

the rest are unremittingly hard Left

Pretty sure Iain Dale isn't 'hard left' or Ian Collins!

Megatherium · 16/02/2017 14:36

Do they still have Julia Hartley-Brewer on? Her worst enemy couldn't describe her as left wing!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 16/02/2017 14:37

Do they still have Julia Hartley-Brewer on?

No she hasn't been in for years.
