Madeleine McCann investigation

I saw today that possible excavations are to start in the resort where MM went missing.

Does anyone think the progress The Met have made is astonishing given the length of time that has elapsed? I can't help but wonder what progress could have been made if they had been involved at the start.

I really hope that somehow they can find out what happened and give her family some sort of closure. I know the ins and outs of what happened and her parents leaving her have been discussed at length on MN but from a crime point of view I would be very interested to see if the Portugese police had done enough or not.

@sabrina. I think you're getting your PJ files confused.

I am talking about www.mccannpjfiles.com not www.mccannfiles.com

The former just have the translated and archived documents, alongside the Portugese originals.

The latter has some of the documents but is full of speculation and nonsense.

My link and my references are to the former which does not have any analysis, commentary etc.

OK?

PortofinoRevisited · 10/05/2014 20:35

Janey - I agree there have been some distasteful elements - All this legal action stuff. But I suppose you can look at from the pov that they are educated people who had the means at their disposal to fight. And whether they should just have to put up with any old shit being published about them? It's like Amanda Knox and her book. Earning money as a victim to pay back all the money her parents borrowed vs cashing in on her notoriety/Meredith Kercher's death. It's very subjective.

ExcuseTypos · 10/05/2014 20:37

When were they all asked to take part in a reconstruction by the Portugese police?

Fideline987654321 · 10/05/2014 20:38

I think they were very reluctant to participate in a reconstruction, not because they were guilty of their daughters disappearance, but because they didn't like what a reconstruction would show about their behaviour .

Completely agree Janey

Deux · 10/05/2014 20:39

Apologies, wrong ending on my first link.

www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk

These are the official PJ files.

P for Policia
J for Judiciaria

Fideline987654321 · 10/05/2014 20:41

When were they all asked to take part in a reconstruction by the Portugese police?

At some point after they became arguidos.

AnyaKnowIt · 10/05/2014 20:42

Its very easy to look back on something and wish we did things differently.

But to bitch about another country's police force and justice system is more then a bit off.

FourForksAche · 10/05/2014 20:44

To rake over the bones of a case without regard for the family's pain takes it even further.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 10/05/2014 20:49

Yes, I accept I may be confusing McCannfiles site with McCannpjfiles sites.

Apologies.

However, as I said right at the beginning - raking over these details with such ghoulish delight turns my stomach.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though - the stuff costa was pm'ing to everyone implicated the McCanns. Right?

ExcuseTypos · 10/05/2014 20:50

Yes, they were asked when they were all back in the Uk.

I don't blame them one bit for not all wanting to go back to Portugal.

I would also like to know why the police waited newly 10 months to request a reconstruction.

This is what frustrates and angers me about this thread. Posters state things such as the McCanns refusing to do a reconstruction, but fail to mention the request was made 10 months after the event. Poster reading think "oh the McCanns weren't doing everything to help", not realising the full FACTS of the situation.

AnyaKnowIt · 10/05/2014 20:51

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though - the stuff costa was pm'ing to everyone implicated the McCanns. Right

No she wasnt

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 10/05/2014 20:53

OK - so what did it say then? Link it, or describe it on here. Because Amaral implicates them in the clearest possible terms.

Fideline987654321 · 10/05/2014 20:56

Costa was pretty openly propounding the accident/coverup theory

AnyaKnowIt · 10/05/2014 20:57

Well, seeing as you asked so nicely Hmm

It was just a link, the same that Deux posted above.

ExcuseTypos · 10/05/2014 20:59

I got the PM. It said the investigation was stopped because the group refused to take part in a reconstruction. If that was true, it just confirms the impression that the Portugese police and criminal system, in this case, was inadequate.

ExcuseTypos · 10/05/2014 21:00

Oh it looks like there were different PMS going round.

Deux · 10/05/2014 21:06

@Sabrina.

Thank you for apologising.

PortofinoRevisited · 10/05/2014 21:14

But surely this was after the Arguido thing. I would have taken legal advice and never set foot in the country again after all than time.

ExcuseTypos · 10/05/2014 21:16

Me too Porto. They'd have been mad to set foot in the place, at that point.

PortofinoRevisited · 10/05/2014 21:18

Deux - that's fair enough. I find it a bit bemusing how these threads USED to be "how dare you imply anything about the McCanns" then delete. The mood seems to have changed over the years....

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 10/05/2014 21:21

Agree on the reconstruction, porto. Why on earth wasn't it done earlier? The McCanns asked for it right at the beginning.

HavannaSlife · 10/05/2014 21:27

I think they would have been advised not to go back, 10 months is a long time. They stayed in the country for how many months after it happened? You would have thought if it was that important to the case the police would have tried to arrange a reconstruction much earlier.

PortofinoRevisited · 10/05/2014 21:34

It must be much harder to stage a reconstruction when people are on holiday. Routine is out of the window. People aren't watching the time so much. When everyone is a stranger, you don't notice people hanging around.

HavannaSlife · 10/05/2014 21:36

And 10 months on id imagen it would be even harder to remember all the details

You heard it here first folks, disregard any crime watch reconstruction unless it is within the 10 month time frame.
