I saw today that possible excavations are to start in the resort where MM went missing.

Does anyone think the progress The Met have made is astonishing given the length of time that has elapsed? I can't help but wonder what progress could have been made if they had been involved at the start.

I really hope that somehow they can find out what happened and give her family some sort of closure. I know the ins and outs of what happened and her parents leaving her have been discussed at length on MN but from a crime point of view I would be very interested to see if the Portugese police had done enough or not.

Why would the Smiths say anything about whether Gerry was in the bar or not? They didn't see him there. They said they saw some who looked like him elsewhere.

Sabrina where did you read that the smiths had acknowledged gerry was in the bar? Thanks I am more than happy to accept this but as a previous poster said why would he even refer to gerry and the bar how would he know

Noddy - indeed they did make a list. Maybe they were trying to help - work out when she could have been taken. Maybe they felt terribly guilty that they had left their kids alone and were hoping to show that they had been conscientious in checking. It's not evidence of a crime per se though is it?

Anya - if your post is asking me how I know they are innocent - this is how I know - I think it would take both of them to be psychopaths to keep up a pretence for all this time - AND how many people do up know that could convince all their friends to lie for them about the murder of their child ???- mmmm none I would say - Anyone who saw Kate in the days that followed could see that she was a broken woman !!! - I just don't buy any of the conspiracy theories - sorry

I would have said that if it was all pre-organised as some of the extreme theorists would have you believe, they would never have needed to make those notes. They would have agreed it all up front and never needed a cobbled together time line.

SY have ruled out that the sighting could have been GM, because witnesses place him at the restaurant. It really is that simple.

NO-ONE knows who is responsible for this. Apart from the person/s that were there. There is practically no evidence of any of the theories - just speculation.

But not Smith? I don't think anyone is talking about murder btw. And none of us know you cannot tell by looking at people what has been going on in their lives. All opinion is just that. As I apsaid 2 sides and in something this emotive they will never ever meet

my rationale self doesn't buy any nonsense of them being involved tbh - of course I don't k ow - no one does - however as I said rationally I know - how else did the kill their daughter and then dispose of the body - oh and en cook up a cover story - and then go out and eat dinner and act normally with their friends ??! I think you would have to be a psychopath to do that

and no-one on here has suggested murder or that anyone incited friends to cover up a murder. The police files do not suggest murder. I have never heard that suggested ever on MN or in RL. The only reference to murder was a slip of the tongue by MNHQ in the heat of a busy night moderating which she apologised for.

I don't get it - what are you all arguing about then - if the Mccanns didn't 'do it'. What does it matter if they can't remember everything - stop concentrating on villa flying the Mccanss and start concentrating on finding out what happened to Their daughter !!!!!!!
