He's being questioned about Jean McConville.

I'm still stunned* that the police investigating an unsolved murder is seen as "dark policing" (whatever that means), the police are supposed to catch criminals!

Yes, the DUP needs to keep calm and not gloat as to do the latter just gives ammunition to SF claims that Adams is being targeted.

In The Disappeared doc, there is a very good clip of Enda Kelly in the Dail taking Adams to task over the Jean MConville case. Adams looked none too happy.

*Maybe not quite stunned. This is SF, perpetually obsessed with their own victimhood.

So only got until 8pm tonight to either release or charge.

Is that so Any? I was wondering if they can hold him longer under the terrorism act

CrispyHedgeHog · 04/05/2014 16:45

Just had a bbc headline thingy on my phone to say Gerry Adams will be released without charge today Angry

Cocolepew · 04/05/2014 16:52

Sad suppose we'll have to put with his smug gob all over the tv next.

Sad I was hoping his day would come.

No doubt there will be some gloating now.

Still, Mrs McConvillles daughter has said that she intends to take civil action so it will be interesting to see what happens next.

My sympathy is with her family.

The reports I'm seeing are saying a file will be sent to the Public Prosecutions Service; what does this mean? Is it a par for the course record or does it mean that names/evidence have been disclosed during the interviews & the PSNI are determining whether there is enough to make a case against others?

JanineStHubbins · 04/05/2014 17:09

He's to be released with a file being sent to Public Prosecution Service - decision to charge will rest with them.

Director of NI Public Prosecution Service was formerly Gerry Adams's solicitor, just to complicate matters further.

Thanks - different from England then where police consult with CPS while a suspect is in custody to see if there would be realistic chance of conviction?

emotionsecho · 04/05/2014 20:39

Well he has been released and is giving a press conference.

GoshAnneGorilla · 04/05/2014 22:22

BTW, the mural mentioned out upthread will have almost certainly been commissioned on SF orders to demonstrate "public support" for Adams.

I am bitterly disappointed he's been released, but we'll see what the future holds. There's more then one skeleton in that man's closet.

SirChenjin · 04/05/2014 22:27

No surprise whatsoever that the evil bastard has been released. Nothing will get in the way of the 'peace process', it seems.

trixymalixy · 05/05/2014 09:56

That's disappointing.
