He's being questioned about Jean McConville.

Thanks Craicdealer, I understand what you're getting at.

PinkSquash · 01/05/2014 21:09

We heard that too Coco, very sad for them to still have to live in fear. They shouldn't have to.

Zucker · 01/05/2014 21:12

Imagine living with that for all these years. One of the sons reckons they who who is responsible but won't say for fear they will be SHOT. Another son who was 6 at the time was distancing himself on another show on Today FM this evening, saying he wasn't privy to any information his older brother has. Now that's fear. Peace process my ass.

Pleasantly surprised at the unanimity on this thread. Always thought he was vile.

BeatrixRotter · 01/05/2014 21:25

I hate the way they immediately start bleating about the timing. Of course they are being persecuted and the arrest has nothing to do with him being guilty of terrible crimes. I sincerely hope the truth will out.

If it was a case of this arrest was because of the timings then I'm pretty sure his lawyers would have gotten him out of there by now.

onedev · 01/05/2014 22:17

You've said it perfectly Zucker, unfortunately.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/05/2014 22:38

There was a really easy way to avoid this so-called unfortunate timing - they
a) could have NOT carried out this abominable deed in the first place or, failing that (as they did),
b) given enough of a shit about the family left behind to give them a body to bury many, many decades ago.

No point bleating about it now, when they failed at a and b.

However much I would love the people who did this to be prosecuted and the McConville family to finally feel a sense of security - I share the concern that the former is highly unlikely and the latter can never happen, given the fear, smears and intimidation that have scarred that family for so long Sad

scarlettsmummy2 · 01/05/2014 23:09

If he was that concerned about the election, why in earth did he go in supposedly voluntarily for questioning. They must have something on him.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/05/2014 23:17

Genuinely think he thought he was going in and out the door quite quickly, scarlett...

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/05/2014 23:19

Another thing - will this really affect SF's vote? Surely no-one who votes SF is unaware of the history of many of its leaders - or are people really that stupid? Confused

scarlettsmummy2 · 01/05/2014 23:22

If I was the policeman interviewing him I would be keeping him there as long as I possibly could.
I think a lot of people in NI have forgotten the back grounds of those in Sein Fein. Gerry Kelly always comes across very well on Nolan but is still a bad man. Plus, Gerry has been keeping a very low profile.

cheekygeeky · 01/05/2014 23:36

He is beyond evil.

Just saw this on the BBC website.

Brave woman. I can't imagine how she must have felt all these years.

AnyaKnowIt · 02/05/2014 11:06

Wow, a very brave woman!

AKeyFox · 02/05/2014 11:45

If he is successfully prosecuted, will the maximum prison term be 2 years as a consequence of the Good Friday agreement ?

LineRunner · 02/05/2014 12:46

Sorry was on the mobile app before and it failed me.

I was going to say what Tommetipsy did, that the BBC is reporting that one of the McConville daughters is talking about naming names.

TheAbominableWoman · 02/05/2014 13:01

Fair fucking play to the daughter of Jean McConville.

ClubName · 02/05/2014 13:25

So, is GA is so universally loathed (I agree 100%) why does he keep winning elections? Like a PP said, it's not like no-one knows his past.

scarlettsmummy2 · 02/05/2014 13:29

Just read that the police apparently have a video confession from Delores Price naming Adams. It's on the Daily Mail website. I also believe they have until 6pm before having to go to court to ask for an extension to hold him.

ThePigOfHappiness · 02/05/2014 13:31

He is not universally loathed at all. There are lots and lots of people who believe in Sinn Fein and in the IRA and in the reunification of the island. There are lots of people who appreciate their vigilantism and appreciate their brand of socialism. There are lots of people who's families all vote for sf and so they do too. There are lots of people who actually really like Gerry Adams. I'm told he is very personable to meet.

But.
There are also lots of people who are more educated and enlightened about history and the troubles and sf's tactics than to vote for sf. It's why there are usually pockets of support for sf, not widespread at all.
