This from the man that falsely accuses parents of smothering their children

Experimenting on children without the knowledge or consent of parents and then accusing them of munchausen by proxy when the child either died or was brain injured as a result of the expeirments-he deprived them of oxygen.

David Southall is one of the group of paediatricians alongside Roy Meadow who were in the forefront of 'investigating' MSbP.

IIRC he carried out covert video surveillance of parents he suspected of abuse, but I think his interpretation of the recordings was questioned by some.

And parents accused him of failing to gain proper consent for experiments on babies. Investigations by his own hospital cleared him but an investigation by the regional office of the NHS said his team hadn't followed the right protocols, although there wasn't enough evidence to prove the parents' case, again IIRC.

Yes I am the same Penny Mellor for the MAMA board please download all documentation and circulate it-he did not get consent and it's unlikely that parents knew what he was doing we need as many parents as possible to come forward if they have had any involvement with Southall-I cannot for the moment say why however it is very important.

I've not really heard of this before though of course I've heard of the women recently released because his evidence was dismissed. I find it so hard to believe that anyone, let alone a doctor, would stand by an watch a child die and do nothing. But then I think of shipman, and the nurse who deliberatly killed babies and I realise that my faith in human goodness is not always well placed. Makes me very scared to be a parent if I think of it too much. I remember how upset I was recently having DS in hospital for a while and needing to go to work for a bit to do some stuff I just couldn't avoid. When I got back I was horrified to find they hadn't changed him and he had poo all down his legs and huge blisters because it'd been left so long - how trivial does that sound when compared to what these mothers went through? My heart goes out to them, I can't begin to imagine what they've been through.

Penny are you really saying that a doctor in this country has experimented with babies by depriving them of oxygen to the point that they become brain-damaged or die? It is like something the Nazi's would do. Why has this not been a huge scandal in the news or have I missed it totally?

Callisto if you click on the link I have provided you will see the documentary evidence of what it is I have claimed-yes he did do it-yes it is like Nazi Germany-however the thought of the child protector being the child abuser is as alien to the public and media as Harold Shipman being a serail killer was-it takes time to get people to believe that somebody whose lifes work is allegedly to save children was actually harming and killing them-I can't put too much up in the public domain about what is going on at the moment-however there are things happening and this will be the biggest single medical scandal this country has ever seen when it blows-I just want to parents to be warned-don't leave your child in a hospital on its own-think about it you never know what the people caring for them are really like.

I have just read the link, it is horrific, I am scared for my children now although they are in very good health and always have been, reading that made me sick to my stomach and scared, what is the world coming to, why are things like this happening and why does nothing seem to happen until it is too late for some poor poor families, my heart goes out to them all

Penny's right if she's talking about the incubator trials - Southall was testing a new incubator for prem babies. That's the trial that parents say they weren't asked to consent to. And the regional inquiry found there were shortcomings in the consent process although not enough evidence to find him 'guilty' IIRC.

I imagine Southall had good intentions though and thought the incubator might help prem babies. Questionable about how he recruited parents and how he acted when it became clear the incubator was harmful.

Just read the link and I am in shock from this. Surely doctors are supposed to 'first do no harm'. Isn't that part of the hippocratic oath or are research doctors exempt? What bastards, utter, utter bastards. I really hope you have got some watertight evidence against them Penny. Anything I can do to help?

Penny - I know much about Southall, most of this went on at my local hospital and I know that you have a long-running campaign against him. I agree that there is probably more to come, until then I have to believe that he has been misguided and over zealous rather than truly evil.

I have to say though that I don't think it's helpful advising parents 'don't leave your child in a hospital on its own-think about it you never know what the people caring for them are really like'. Some of us have no choice but to do just that and we are already stressed enough.

Zealous is a good choice of word. I think Southall is probably a zealot. Interviewed him a couple of times years ago and think he's so convinced that his view of the world is right, he can't see past that - anyone who questions him must be an evil person who wants to harm children, in his opinion.

But does he not see himself as harming children? Actually you don't have to answer that because his actions speak for themselves. Interesting that John Hemming is gunning for him too.
