now how did the toddler end up in hatfield?

\link{ news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/5255170.stm\here}

i mean, did he get taken, did he get on a train, how? was he actually left with relatives, or is he from hatfield, and was home alone?

well I guess I must be a selfish cow - because if I got a chance to go on holiday for a week with my DH I'd go!

oliveoil · 09/08/2006 14:40

well if a man went on holiday and left his son with a relative, would he be questioned by police on his return???????????????????

She is a single parent (I presume) and maybe needed a break.

sad story though.

I agree geekgrrl he deserves better people to look after him. Poor litle mite. Wonder what the mother will say in her interview. Woud like to see what she looks like too. He looks like a little angel.

nailpolish · 09/08/2006 14:46

dh and I are going away for a weekend soon and leaving the dd's with relatives (ie my mother)

does that make us selfish

god i hope not

beckybrastraps · 09/08/2006 14:49

I left my children with their grandparents - not even a parent - so I could go away for the weekend and shag my dh. Does it make it better that I went to Sussex rather then Turkey?!

lemonaid · 09/08/2006 15:23

The facts as reported would entirely cover the mother leaving her son with her parents, or with his father, while she went on holiday for one week with a boyfriend (not "to meet up with a turkish bf for a shagging fest"). Even the Sun piece doesn't say he was "badly neglected".

I'm not sure how that automatically makes her a selfish slag or that the child should be adopted.

At least, that's what the story says now, but it also says "UPDATED", so perhaps the Sun have been frantically rewriting after checking their (ahem) "facts".

nailpolish · 09/08/2006 15:24

LOL @ sussex

yes we are going to the Edinburgh Festival not Turkey. so surely that is OK with everyone (sniff)

lemonaid · 09/08/2006 15:25

Depends if you are planning any shagging, np.

lemonaid · 09/08/2006 15:26

Apparently.

nailpolish · 09/08/2006 15:34

yes plenty

nailpolish · 09/08/2006 15:35

actually no then, we are taking in some cult-yur

UrsulatheSeawitch · 09/08/2006 15:40

Ah, sorry, it was this piece in the Mirror that implied he'd been neglected. (I'm always getting me tabloids mixed up )

Even Mirror piece only implies he's been neglected by the person he was left with (and I think we'd all already worked out that they weren't great nurturing material). When living with his mother he's described as smiling, happy, clean and well looked after.

Gingeme · 09/08/2006 16:23

Surely the police will catch them once the mother has given them the address of the person. Thats if they havnt gone into hiding .

UrsulatheSeawitch · 09/08/2006 16:39

Oh yes! I never meant to suggest that he was neglected by his mum! Just that even if the bloke who abandoned him wasn't the person he'd been left with, he still hadn't been looked after well while his mum was away - his mum sounds OK.

zookeeper · 09/08/2006 16:47

is desperatescousewife for real?

CheTeepee · 09/08/2006 16:47

Well if you'd seem my 2 yr old today as we left the park, blackberry juice stains, dirt, ice cream would you say he looked neglected or just had a wonderful time being a boy? Why are children expected to look pristine always otherwise they are neglected?

geekgrrl · 09/08/2006 17:07

i'll retract my non-pc statement about adoption then. sounds like a shite situation all-round, for her and the little boy.
