wrong link

SherlockLGJ · 27/07/2006 08:31

Sorry about that.

SherlockLGJ · 27/07/2006 08:32

Now, I know it happened after a BF but that is all it would take to put some non informed person off BFing without knowing all the facts. As the two are unconnected.

OP posts:
munz · 27/07/2006 08:32

oh god that poor mother.

SherlockLGJ · 27/07/2006 08:33

Bloody sensationalist headlines.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 27/07/2006 08:33

Exactly. Why is it "baby girl dies after breastfeed" rather than "baby girl dies in mosque" or something else?

NotQuiteCockney · 27/07/2006 08:33

(the mosque being just as irrelevant as the breastfeed)

SherlockLGJ · 27/07/2006 08:34

Munz

Exactly that poor girl, but how many other girls might be put off, is what annoyed me about that headline.

OP posts:
StinkyPete · 27/07/2006 08:34

what a sad sorry. but how v v sad they felt the need to word the headline that way!! on first glance, it gave me the impression her death was linked to the bf??

munz · 27/07/2006 08:34

shame they put the BF bit in, I wonder how many will be put off BF cos of it

agree. You could complain to the BBC. Or we all could

munz · 27/07/2006 08:36

(sorry LG x'ed post!) my thoughts exactly (after the poor girl)

Twiglett · 27/07/2006 08:37

why are you reading negativity into it?

think you might be super-sensitive here guys

its like "Man dies after walking to shops"

this poor woman fed her child and then noticed blood its a sequential list of events .. not necessarily negative

pack it in .. you're going mad now

SherlockLGJ · 27/07/2006 08:37

This appears to be the correct address to complain to.

OP posts:
Caligula · 27/07/2006 08:41

I've e-mailed them with a complaint.

SherlockLGJ · 27/07/2006 08:51

So have I.

This story is wilfully misleading and appalling journalism.

WHY link breastfeeding with the tragic death of this baby girl?

It is yet more "breastfeeding bashing" - when will journalists bother to get facts straight?! It's this kind of emotive and ill-informed reporting that discourages women from breastfeeding and gives well-meaning friends, relatives and healthcare professionals yet more reason to (misguidedly) suggest to women who ARE breastfeeding that perhaps it's not best for their baby.

(Twiglett, don't stop me mid-rant, there's a love )

mumandlovingit · 27/07/2006 09:16

ive also emailed with a complaint.i havent breastfed my children for several reasons but this article is outrageous.it will put people off breastfeeding which is the most natural thing a mother can do for her child.it is in no way linked to infant deaths and was very irresponsible of them to imply that that was the case for this baby.i am appaled

LuluPuiMingPants · 27/07/2006 09:16

What the hell????

That is the shittest journalism I have seen for quite some time.

Come on, Twiglett, it's obviously implying a link between breastfeeding and her death. Appalling.

LIZS · 27/07/2006 09:17

Agree, there appears to be no link to the breastfeeding in this tragic case, but it is the headline which is misleading rather than the story itself .

Indeed there was also a report in the paper yesterday about how they are more actively promoting b'feeding to help reduce the number of later developing health problems which cost the NHS a small fortune. How mixed a message is that in conjunction with this story ?

hunkermunker · 27/07/2006 09:19

Wonder if they'd have put "baby girl dies after bottlefeed" in the headline?

Er, no, i don't think they would.

Fucking wanker journalist sensationalist knob tossface cunts.
