Hmm...well it seems I can't do anything right. Will this report make a difference to you when you baby is less then 8 weeks old? And can anyone tell me, is it supposed to increase the risk overall, or for the duration of the bedsharing under 8 weeks? I can't tell from the article. Cot death is my worst fear, and I mean I'm terrified, I feel sick right now.

Most stuff about co-sleeping advises against doing so when you are overtired - like in the first eight weeks of your baby's life.
On the other hand I bed-shared with my DS from birth until he was nearly 20 weeks - the only way we could get any sleep AND I don't regret one minute of it. I'm a HV so I suppose I should have known better but I was also a tired Mum with a fractious baby who had reflux. Bed-sharing kept me sane.

nannyoakley - I think you've made your point now.

My dd never came in our bed as she was perfectly happy in her moses basket, but ds refused to be put down anywhere. He seemed to desperately NEED the comfort of our bed and after a few sleepless nights so did we! I would still do the same again even after these reports.

The fact is, babies can die of 'cot death' anywhere and at any time. Only last week I heard of a 5 month old baby (friend of a friend)who died in his buggy while out for a walk with his nanny. The only thing you can do is take all sensible precautions (no pillows/no smoking etc etc)and then pray it doesn't happen to you. And yes, I am one of those mums who wakes them up when checking that they are breathing, I still do now sometimes,so I am not being blase about peoples' concerns.

Just realised that you'd all finished with this thread ages ago but I've only just seen it. Feel free to ignore me!
