Grin

David Cameron's description of UKIP.

I'm beginning to like the guy.

You beat me to it..someone else in trouble for name calling Grin

dinosaure · 04/04/2006 13:29

Caligula, it's a ploy. If he gets elected, he'll be same old same old Tory like all the rest of them.

Caligula · 04/04/2006 13:30

Oh yes I know but it's so refreshing to hear someone use intemperate language like that - almost like a real person!

OP posts:
dinosaure · 04/04/2006 13:31

I love that "almost" Grin.

paolosgirl · 04/04/2006 13:32

Go Cameron!!!

FairyMum · 04/04/2006 13:33

Could have been talking about his own party!

paolosgirl · 04/04/2006 13:37

Mmmm....and a fair share of them on the left as well, Fairy!

Blu · 04/04/2006 13:38

CLOSET racists?

It's a closet built of glass with the door wide open, then!

MagicGenie · 04/04/2006 13:46

Agree Blu - wasn't Enoch Powell a Tory?!

donnie · 04/04/2006 14:11

I too have secret feelings for david cameron which are verging on liking him - help me! thing is, I really don't see much difference between him and Blair.

MagicGenie · 04/04/2006 14:55

Donnie - I agree. It's not in my genetics to vote Tory but I think he's an attractive prospect like Blair was a few years ago.

EnidFord · 04/04/2006 14:55

off with his head!

Callisto · 04/04/2006 14:56

Good for David. Do you think ukip will sue him a la GF?

edam · 04/04/2006 14:57

LOL Blu at UKIP in the glass closet! Do you think UKIP members could sue on the grounds that he's accusing them of being in denial about their sexuality (which is actionable, after Jason Donovan)...

MagicGenie · 04/04/2006 15:14

They're demanding an apology - look at \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4875026.stm\this}

(hope that worked!)

Tinker · 04/04/2006 15:18

Wonder if they'll be contacting Foot Antsey re the "vicious campaign"?

DominiConnor · 04/04/2006 17:39

I recall Mr. Donovan very carefully explaining his position on TV. He had absolutely no problem at all even slightly with gays. It didn't matter if he was gay or not. But he sued because he had been called a liar aobut his sexuality.
As I recall he won enough money to bankrupt the gazy magazine in question, but rather than crush them waived the award.

As for Mr. Cameron's attack on UKIP, I'm afraid I'm a cynic here.
Why bother attacking them unless they bleed away votes from the right ?
I've bumped into them, and they do seem rather racist in a little Englander sort of way. I'm more euro sceptic than any UKIP person, but that's on dull grounds like efficiency, free markets and corruption. They seem to be what I tend to call "modern" racists, a vice to be found on both the left and right. They appear to believe everyone should stay where they are put. Thus coloured people born here are fine, but no more, French people are nice as long as they don't try to run Britain, and mult-national entities are all evil be they large corporates or the UN.

SenoraPostrophe · 04/04/2006 17:42

but DC, if he was attacking them only because they bleed votes from the right, surely he would have said something like "loonies and fruitcakes and closet europhiles"?

I hold him in slightly higher esteem for these comments too, btw. But it would still be a cold day in hell before I voted for him.

Blu · 04/04/2006 17:56

But what can you say about UKIP? In the last elections, the candidate in our area - which is a serious inner-city disaster of schooling, gun crime, housing scandals, an epi-centre for drug dealers and throngs of homeless asylum seekers not receiving thier staturory entitlements, UKIP focussed on the REAL issues. The whole of the back of their leaflet was about European restrictions on.....vitamin supplements!

David Cameron hardly has to be a radical pioneer to name them as 'fruitcakes'.

philippat · 04/04/2006 18:23

i loved the way UKIP said they objected to being called 'racists'. they apparently are quite happy to be called loonies and fruitcakes Grin

JoolsToo · 04/04/2006 18:26

DC have you given away your age 'coloured'? Shock

moondog · 04/04/2006 18:29

I think he is using it ironically JT.
(If he isn't frankly,I'm alarmed.)

ruty · 04/04/2006 18:29

thats what i thought JT...

koolkat · 04/04/2006 18:56

What the feck is a "modern racist" ? Is a modern racist any different from say an old-fashioned racist ?
"Coloured" Shock

DominiConnor · 04/04/2006 20:00

I'm 45 in case you cared Joolstoo.

I suppose I see "old fashioned" racists as those who see other races as inferior groups to be exploited or driven over.

More modern racists just want separation between ethnic groups. They don't mind each type being in the "right" place, and often admire them. Thus they will admire the way that some other country may be cleaner, or richer, but reject the notion of copying their methods, to protect their "culture".
They hate they blurring of national identity caused by multilateral organisations. People from the left focus upon "evil corporations", and those of the right upon plots by the UN, EU and international zionism/Islam or fluoridation of water.
