*Family* of killer evicted

The family of one of the men who killed Anthony Walker is being evicted from their local authority home - \link{http://www.guardian.co.uk/uklatest/story/0,,-5661347,00.html\Guardian report}

That's not right or reasonable, surely? Why not just send them to jail too?

I am not sure I understand WHY they are evicting the family? What have the family done to deserve eviction? Unless there is more to the story than is reported here.

They are serving an eviction notice, but need the courts to back it.

You have to ask yourself how he got so far out of hand that it was OK to murder a black lad with an ice pick.

If it scares the bejaysus out of them I am all for it. If there are any younger ones coming up it may make them think before they think it is ok to kill in cold blood an innocent lad. Wonder where they got their racist attitudes from ?

OK, if they are nasty vocal violent racists who terrorise their neighbours then they should be evicted but this sounds like kangaroo court stuff unless we're told anything different.

Look at mieow's thug neighbours - their parents are really nice people.

But you can't punish someone because a member of their family has commited a crime, no matter how nasty it was.

As I said before, unless there is more to this story and that the whole family, or someone still living there, is doing something wrong, then this can't be right surely?

Hulababy I agree. Sadly perfectly nice people go on to have 'thug' children (could be any one of us on here Sad), evicting the family won't help.

In fact it will create another set of people with agrudge against the system, surely?

The family of criminals are almost always victims too, often of the violence / drug abuse but certainly of the pain it must cause to know the child / brother / parent you ahd has gone, and was so rotten.

Have to say that many of the parents of our YOs (I work in a prison) look like perfectly normal, law abiding people and certainyl not nasty pieces ofwork at all. And some of what their sons have done is rally really nasty and vile. But the parents and family can be classed as victims, as peachyclair says. They shouldn't be punished because of their child's crime.

Isn't this the one whose brother is the footballer for ManU or Man City? I bet they're only doing this because they think the brother can afford to house them somewhere else and then the HA looks like they're doing something for the good of the community. I agree that it's totally wrong to punish the family like this.

Yes, Amanda, he is - and he put out an appeal for his brother to come home when the 2 of them had legged it. It could well be that the one in prison is just a bad egg.

I agree, Jan, that he probably is a bad egg. I still don't see why his family should be punished. I think the HA are probably doing it because they can in light of who the other son is and that he'd obviously take care of his parents. I remember his appeal when they left the country. What he did was horrible but his family were not responsible nor should they be evicted.

Sorry, Amanda, I wasn't shouting at you - I just keep rereading my earlier posts and wondering why hula and peachyclair seem to be agreeing with each other as if they think I approve of the eviction!

This happens to me a lot. Must be the way I write.

I find this quite frightening. To deprive someone of their home because their family member is guilty of a crime, is not right. What if they weren't council tenants, but owned their own home? Could the state just sequester it?

Either very very very authoritarian and scarey, or sketchy reporting with no details of other behaviours by the actual tenants which may have led to this.

There may be more to this than meets the eye though and the HA may have been looking for an airtight excuse to get rid of this family. I'm from Liverpool and from what i've heard the family had been causing trouble in the neighbourhood for years.

But an airtight excuse should be the tenant's behaviour, not the behaviour of one of their relatives.

But I suspect there must be more to this than the report here is saying.

I live in a HA house and from what I know they don't just evict for something like this. In truth they can be sometimes reluctant to start the eviction process so I think perhaps there is more to this story than just the fact their son is a murderer.

Like edodgy says, it sounds like an excuse they could use. They need for the family to have done something against their tenant contract and that can be the only reason they are allowed to publicise.

But that's just hearsay, edodgy - surely if they had been "causing trouble" that badly there should have been court cases and ASBOs and then those would have been cited as a reason for eviction, not what he did?

Caligula I agree but they may have found a loopole (sp?) because he resided in their property at the time of his crime.

That does make a lot more sense, of course. Maybe they are so scary nobody dares to testify against them.

But where will they go now? Who will get them next door?
