What punishment do you think the British legal system would deem appropriate for someone who rapes a 5 year old?

I'm not going to link because I saw this in the Daily Mail. But, really, am truly horrified.

I'd said further up that he is being punished, and how. I refer to the DM pitchforkers as those who want castration/life/decades in prison, as if that would help at all, other than making people feel better about themselves.

pumpkinsweetie · 04/07/2012 19:31

Fairy-do you have small dcs?
You do realise setting him free puts children at risk?
Think back to when you were 14yo, would you think/do that to a little child?

ReportMeNow · 04/07/2012 19:32

I can well believe that this boy is being punished without going to prison. The 16 yr boy who had a managed move to our school when he travelled back home in the evening was often taunted, physically assaulted, his family were devastated/ashamed (his mother looked frail) . Not sure what I was expecting really but he was polite and confident, got on well with his peers, bright enough to do ok at ALevel. Middle class family, so not quite fitting in with the profile, and I know from my father's school that attitudes from those guilty of sexually exploiting young girls is different, tied in to horrible gang culture and some related issues similar to those highlighted in Rochdale.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/07/2012 19:32

You're glad I'm not your counsellor dotty because I don't think people are 'born evil' Confused

How odd.

bigkidsdidit · 04/07/2012 19:33

Aside from the details of the case which I don't know, I've only read that DM article, two things horrify me:

The fact that if he were an adult he'd only have got six and a half FUCKING YEARS

And the fact that the judge appears to have a history of sympathising with paedophiles Shock

What can we do about those points? Is there anyone I can write to?

ThePan · 04/07/2012 19:33

No, I think saying people are 'born evil' is just a mighty let off for society - ie there is nothing we can do.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/07/2012 19:34

Actually I think there should be proper intervention by professionals with regards to the 14 year old - the outcome with no intervention could be really bad.

I very much hope he gets the help needed in order to prevent further deviant behaviour.

pumpkinsweetie · 04/07/2012 19:34

Tbh a decent respectful person would not excuse raping a 5yo.
I do believe some people are born evil, there is various examples throughout history.
Castrating if made available would be good, chemical castration is already used in america

ThePan · 04/07/2012 19:34

bigkid - the Attorney-General's office is the place t ostart. IF you google it I am sure it will come up.

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 19:35

No Laurie because of your whole attitude to THE ABUSER I don't care how old he was.

pumpkinsweetie · 04/07/2012 19:37

I hope the 5yo gets the help she is going to needSad

LaurieFairyCake · 04/07/2012 19:41

Really, we're using America as a yard stick.

Chemical castration is ridiculous and barbaric and does not solve the problem in any way.

And I'm not making excuses dotty - I'm explaining behaviour and the reasons for it.

Seriously what age do you want to make children who are abused responsible for their actions when they go on to abuse - because that is what happened here.

StealthPolarBear · 04/07/2012 19:42

America uses chemical castration? Really?

ThePan · 04/07/2012 19:43

pumpknsweetie - so do I hope she gets the help she deserves. If there is one over-arching reason as to why she may not is that fact that our system focusses on conviction and punishment rather than prevention and assistance to both the victim and offender.

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 19:43

Its a falisy that most abusers are abused children themselves though Laurie as someone else said you can't monitor 14 years olds 24/7 unless yours are out for school and then under lock and key get real

pumpkinsweetie · 04/07/2012 19:44

'barbaric'-who cares about peadophiles feelings?-i certainly do not care!
I think by age 8, a child knows right from wrong

Mintyy · 04/07/2012 19:45

Very disturbed by the excuses.

I am socially and politically liberal.

I have children of both sexes.

This boy has been let off DISGRACEFULLY lightly and I am 100% certain it is because it was he was an older boy and she was a younger girl.

OP posts:
ThePan · 04/07/2012 19:45

Dotty - no-one has said most abusers are themselves abused.

I need to pop off from this thread - lots to do.

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 19:45

Sorry if you don't agree with my views Laurie but until you've been in my position you'll never understand the damage that is done by these people

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 04/07/2012 19:46

How would castration stop rape?

KateShmate · 04/07/2012 19:49

Agreed with Pumpkin - castration, a least.
IMO, for rapists they should bring back capital punishment - but then I feel very strongly about children and abuse, and the fact that child abusers never get the punishment they deserve.

I want to say that I've got a 5 year old DD myself and that I would hunt down that 14YO, but I don't even want to think of my DD and that rapist in the same sentence. It makes me sick.

The part of that article that pisses me off so much is when a woman defending the rapist said ''We have a very remorseful and frightened boy'' - HE is frightened?!?! Think about the fucking 5 year old. Angry

LaurieFairyCake · 04/07/2012 19:49

You would be surprised at how dreadful the lives that young people have lived and the circumstances they have lived under when they commit crime and go into young offenders institutions.

It is most definitely NOT a fallacy that people who abuse arent previously abused children - they are in about 80% - they have usually lived dreadful lives, emotional and sexual abuse, terrible neglect.

And the idea of making an abused 8 year old criminally responsible if they sexually assault a younger child is just unbelievable - I can't believe that you think that's justifiable pumpkin.

SardineQueen · 04/07/2012 19:49

So no link to these other reports then.

And dotty I am a bit gobsmacked to say the least about what is being said to you.

laurie if dotty believes that her brother who sexually abused her for all those years was born evil then that is her right and it is disgusting that you are telling her otherwise.

Dotty fucking hell I don't know what to say, unbelievable response.

SardineQueen · 04/07/2012 19:51

laurie I would be interested if you could show that those circumstances are the circumstances for this 14yo.

Pan has not been forthcoming so it is over to you to show that this boy was living in dire circumstances.

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 19:51

Of course he was remorseful thats why he got a slap on the wrist imo he knew that the meeker he acted the lesser a sentence he'd get 14 year old boys aren't stupid or naive I've met plenty of them.
