Tony Blair for new PM. would it really be so bad?

mumnosbest · 28/06/2012 12:36

I'm not the most politically minded so please all opinions welcome. Apart from 2 poorly thought out wars, was he so bad? The recession wasnt all his fault but a culmination of years of bad lending, high bonuses and the decisions of various governments.

AT least with TB it felt like we had a real government and pm. now we seem to have a bunch of clowns playing out their schoolboy fantasies and making us a laughing stock imo.

What do you think?

He did inherit a strong economy but was it one that had reached it's peak and was destined to fall? The rest of Europe and America did too, without the help of TB.

I agree with all of these negatives but no one seems to be able to offer a better alternative and I too prefer him to Cameron, Milliband or that other bloke who's supposed to be in the 'coalition' with DC... What's his name? You know DCs lapdog? Grin

That's DC=David Cameron not MNs DC

amber I agree with you on Cameron. I can't stand the guy either. The issue is that there aren't many politicians who are capable. I am conservative and think the Labour party made a huge mistake by not kicking out Brown and selecting Frank Field as their leader. He would make a fab PM and I think more people would have voted for him in the last election.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 28/06/2012 15:20

Blair and Brown were the equivalent of the guy at the pub buying everyone drinks, putting it on the slate .... of course he had supporters. Cameron has the misfortune to be the one handing out the Alka Seltzer and telling us there's no such thing as a free drink

noddyholder · 28/06/2012 15:28

It is not out of the question though looking at British politics. He is hugely charismatic and able although I personally hope to never see this I think it could happen

SerialKipper · 28/06/2012 15:30

The work to privatise the NHS and slash benefits for the sick started under Blair. The Tories just happen to have been in when it went through parliament (and I remember Cleggy cheering along to it, too).

Deregulating the banks and media ownership were also done under Blair.

The shit has finally hit the fan under the Tories, but it was thrown a long time ago. There ain't no one waiting on white chargers to come and make things better: they're all in it together...

lisaro · 28/06/2012 15:53

Murdering lying scum. Who us now profiting immensely from it. Who the fuck in their right mind would vote for that?

AmberLeaf · 28/06/2012 15:57

Talkingpeace2

I don't think he's the answer, but I'd still rather live under his government than camerons.

PoppadumPreach · 28/06/2012 15:59

never ever ever. awful dreadful terrible self-serving arrogant narcissistic tosser.

he is only only interested in self-promotion and seriously believes he is super-human. if you really think he is good for this country then it isonly because he has fooled you.

he is a terrible awful person and it would be the WORST thing ever for the UK.

Amberleaf - i would fuck Cameron if it would keep Blair away!

SoupDragon · 28/06/2012 15:59

"awful dreadful terrible self-serving arrogant narcissistic tosser."

Pretty much the same as Cameron then.

Orwellian · 28/06/2012 16:02

Is this a joke?

Tony Blair is the reason why this country is in so much shit.

Not only was he a shit politician but he seems to have the morals of Hitler.

headfairy · 28/06/2012 16:04

"awful dreadful terrible self-serving arrogant narcissistic tosser."

I think that describes pretty much all career politicians.

PoppadumPreach · 28/06/2012 16:11

Yes it does describe many, many career politicians, but Tony Blair is king of them all.

seriously - The Tony Blair Faith Foundation????

it doesn't get more head-spinningly more narcissistic than this?

AmberLeaf · 28/06/2012 16:18

I know Blair is a (insert whichever insult you prefer) but seriously, you think cameron is better?

Cameron makes Thatcher look like someones cuddly gran, anyone would be better.

AmberLeaf · 28/06/2012 16:20

Amberleaf - i would fuck Cameron if it would keep Blair away!

No need....he's fucked all of us already!

PoppadumPreach · 28/06/2012 16:23

Amber we'll have to agree to disagree. Cameron inherited a pile of shit. i don't agree with everything he's doing but some tough times are absolutely inevitable because of the previous government's overspend.

Blair is an actor. and i truly believe he is dangerous. he wants to be seen as some kind of messiah.

but you are obviously entitled to you opinion, as i am to mine!

TwoIfBySea · 28/06/2012 16:32

I'm just aghast at anyone thinking "oh it'd be better than what we've got". So you'd be happier ignoring the problem, getting further into debt and privatisation by the back door? Because the problems the NHS are facing with PFI deals weren't caused by the current lot.

My god but that is how idiots like Blair get in. Presumably the awful Balls and incompetent Milliband are right up your street too? Because if you think for a minute they're not going to continue what the Tories have started and suck up to the rich (while pretending not to) then you really need to read something other than the Guardian!

AmberLeaf · 28/06/2012 16:32

Cameron is a priveliged toff with zero sense of the real world, that has nothing to do with what he inherited from previous gov.

Despite being the parent of a disabled child he's still shafting the disabled and their families (that's my son and I) that is how detached from the 'real' world he is. He doesn't give a shit.

He's a rich cunt who doesn't need to think about what's good for 'normal' people.

It amazes me that 'normal' people think he's actually doing anything for them.

I'd fuck anyone to get rid of cameron....sadly that's probably what ill end up doing to get by once he's got rid of my £50 a week carers allowance and forces me onto workfare while my autistic son is home alone eating washing powder.

happybubblebrain · 28/06/2012 16:37

Tony Blair is a million times better than Cameron. FACT.

PoppadumPreach · 28/06/2012 16:38

Amber I am genuinely sorry that you are having to go through this. I do not know every detail of what cameron is doing, and I do not agree with reducing/withdrawing disability/carer allowances.

but if we can park the Cameron debate to the side, then i still stand by my view that Blair is an utter terror and has no interest whatsoever in improving anyone's life but his own. it would not be good to have him back.

Is this cos of the evening standard yesterday? I was WELL pissed off about that.

Yes, it would be so terrible if he was. During his time as PM, social inequality increased massively, and an unequal society leads to social instability. He's dodgy as hell,. He pushed the UK to get an Olympics which they couldn't afford (even in 2005) in order to appease the masses to make up for the Iraq and Afghan war fiascoes.

And, remember. It wouldn't just be him. He'd bring Cherie with him

the horror

the horror

KatieScarlett2833 · 28/06/2012 16:55

Iraq.

Enough said.

AmberLeaf · 28/06/2012 16:56

Thanks Poppadom, obviously as it affect me hugely I've been keeping an eye on what this gov is doing, its frightening tbh and there will be IMO massive civil disturbance if what he wants to do comes to fruition.

People need to wake up to what is going on and not be bamboozled by the debt issue (we've always had massive debt!)

He's passing an awful lot of stuff right under everyones noses while we all argue about debt/austerity etc.

Anyone who thinks he's doing good for you, remember you are only ever a day away from serious illness or disability!

belgo · 28/06/2012 16:57

'Apart from 2 poorly thought out wars, was he so bad? '

Understatement of the century!

Oh and by the way, the Euro isn't done-for yet.

AlpinePony · 28/06/2012 17:02

hahahaha Jimmy Carr, is that you?
