Just seen on the news that Laura Roberts has been sentenced to 2 years for rioting last year. Yet 2 young lads who had been talking about rioting on facebook got five years.
When this young womans court case first started my DH said "i bet she gets a lesser sentence than those lads did if she gets sentenced at all" i also thought the same as did others ive spoken to about this in RL.
Looks like we got proved right.

donnie I think it was me who mentioned class not the OP

donnie · 25/05/2012 19:08

so the earlier comment 'fuck the working classes' - I am intrigued as to how that scans in this situation.

Is it that the millionaire's kid should have got a longer sentence?

As for the two men, would they have received a lesser sentence with double barrelled names and as Eton background?

noone on here seems to be able to explain.

Sorry. Didn't read title but feel it is true

PS Pan - you need to sharpen that axe dear (for your rather dull hair splitting...) Wink

" To crave the patience of your Honour again, the term 'accomplices' never, and I repeat for effect, never, has appeared on a charge sheet in the jurisdiction of this scepter'd isle. I'd request that Ms TheJoy produces an Exhibit A, being such a charge sheet, or indeed references this court by electronic means, to such a charge. I'd request it, but I know it would be a waste of the court's time to do so.

Can we now move to the sentencing of Ms TheJoy your Honour? For the Contempt of Court in producing ill-thought out and spurious debating points which she aggrevated by refusing to acknowledge her serious errors even when they were pointed out to her."

< resumes sitting position and wonders if it's ethical to offer to take over as Ms TheJoy's defence counsel as well..>

Is it possible that they may already have previous convictions/suspended sentences outstanding for other things, and therefore their sentences would be tougher than for someone who had no previous and committed a genuine first offence?

" Condemned from her own evidence you Honour. The Exhibit A specifically states that 'accomplices' has no legal meaning, as you, I and the most incompetent law student would testify. Relying on a claim of other people's incompetence is no defence in law. I rest my case, and need to be getting on with making dinner. I'd ask for the full weight of the law be visited upon Ms TheJoy. No probation reports, no character witness, just tooth and claw sentencing for this barbarous act".

< removes wig, dons pinney..> " Chicken cacciatora tonight, your Honour? And don't be late this time. For a change."

I'll set an extra place.Grin

not surprised at all, obviously she should have got longer.

Aboutlastnight · 25/05/2012 19:40

Maybe the Facebook guys had previous.

edam · 26/05/2012 23:26

Fair point from the OP - two people merely posting on FB about rioting get longer than someone who actually went out and did it.

HillyWallaby · 27/05/2012 06:39

They are all ignoring us aboutlastnight. Grin

We have messed up their class rant with a valid question that might possibly solve the mystery but it's not as romantic or as exciting as believing that the establishment is out to demonise working class people, so they are pretending we didn't say it. Wink
