Just heard this awful news. Her poor family.

£312K now. The DM is \link{http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2133663/Claire-Squires-JustGiving-London-Marathon-2012-death-girl-ran-Samaritans-memory-brother.html\continuously updating the figure in its headline} (adding in the gift aid so the total is close to £400K now)

I do hope this huge support brings her family some comfort. They must be so proud of her.

This just makes me proud the human race. All the bad stuff that is going on and people come together like this.

£375,000 now.

meditrina · 24/04/2012 15:27

This was featured on Good Morning today, and the major news channels at lunchtime. The total is now over £410k, and there is about £90k in Gift Aid; so her £500 has turned into £500,000. The charity is serving up a named fund within their funds and will use it for additional projects in her name.

JustGiving has agreed to waive its 6.5 per cent fee on credit card donations to Claire's page according to \link{http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/news/article-2134375/JustGiving-agrees-waive-26-000-cut-marathon-death-girl-Claire-Squiress-fundraiser-page-hits-400-000.html\another DM piece}, which is nice, but I have to say I was stunned when I looked up how much they take normally. There are more generous donation pages

That's really good news!

The total is now over £515k, with nearly another £115k in Gift Aid. It's a stream of small donations: typically between £2 and £50; so thousands and thousand of people are showing they have been touched by this.

It became even more sad to me when one news report said that she had chosen this charity because of a suicide in her immediate family.

I ran in Sunday's marathon and this has just left me numb, particularly as I'm the same age too. I just feel awful for her family.

Ponders · 24/04/2012 20:54

her mother has been a Samaritans volunteer for 24 years too, Edith

the family had 5 children & now they are without 2 of them. it's so dreadful for them Sad
