Children and teacher killed in Toulouse and last week French Paras gunned down in Montauban. Not known if the two incidents are connected at this stage.

His brother is said to be involved with an extremist organization and the rest of family has been arrested as a precaution. I'm sure they will be let out as soon as they are cleared.

I would happily shoot him in the head, if I had to, but it would be too good for him.

Hmm, not sure, I imagine they need to interview them all as well...and the brother is known to be an extremist so they need to be sure that they won't put him back on the streets if had something to do with it...I'm not sure police have much choice at the mo, tbh.

What a sicko. He didn't just kill these children, he executed them. I read that he grabbed the terrified 8 year old little girl by the hair and shot her. Then when she was lying bleeding on the floor he shot her twice more at close range to make sure she was dead. Big brave man, killing a little completely innocent girl. This is more than murder, this is really really perverse, especially if he filmed it. Probably got excited by the thought of killing children. He should be extinguished as soon as possible in the most painful way possible.

Really would like to inflict death on him with a million papercuts, slow and painful, anything else would be too good for him.

So many tragic events in a matter of weeks. I also wish a slow torturous punishment on him & the staff sergeant who executed 16 afghans last week, evil, evil, evil.

He killed more adults than children; from what has been released so far, his motives do not seem to have been rooted in excitement.

And, as winnybella has been saying, it seems that a lot was known about him. And I hope there will be a full investigation into why the deaths of the soldiers (from which the significant lead from the email address arose) was not pursued with far greater vigour. Had it been, could the school shootings have been avoided?

i am from south west france myself and the news this week has been surreal (in a very bad way). I can't believe that anyone would behave like this. I also worry that given his alleged background, the number of people voting for the front national will rise.

This man is still under seige. I personally hope they get him alive and I hope they get him alive soon. The longer this goes on the bigger his profile gets.

I saw some reporting earlier which listed an alarming array of weapons it was believed he had in his house (can't quite work out how the authorities could have known that, unless eg a relative was now co-operating).

If those account were true, then it means that there are some very brave French military personnel putting themselves in harm's way in order to conclude this operation. I wish them all well.

I wonder how much reliance a negotiator can place on such claims? I suppose they have to plan for the most dangerous scenario.

They evacuated all neighbours earlier today. I should imagine that, in view of the threat he claims to pose, then there may be casualties during this operation.
