Children and teacher killed in Toulouse and last week French Paras gunned down in Montauban. Not known if the two incidents are connected at this stage.

winny probably part of a bigger picture & they didn't know which way he would jump, if it was part of a wider anti-terrorist circle they may well have waited hoping to lure others out of the woodwork.

They made a bad call but its difficult to know the full story given the nature of the situation.

Its desperately Sad and the thought that that bastid actually pulled the little girl by the hair to him to shoot her just makes we weep .

Very un christian of me but I hope they shoot him. You cannot punish anyone who is as cold blooded & ruthless as that.

winnybella · 21/03/2012 09:48

I mean one can't help but think that the children's deaths could have been prevented.

winnybella · 21/03/2012 09:51

x-post

They are sayng they want him alive.

But surely after he killed for the second time, it was clear he was extremely dangerous and needed to be stopped.

According to Le Monde, police got the IP numbers and then found out one of them belonged to the brother of the suspect. Brother also had connections to the islamist circles. Seems pretty obvious, no?

Of course we don't have the whole picture but I'm going after what the mnister of Internal Affairs said.

Bossybritches22 · 21/03/2012 09:52

Oh I agree, thats what I mean by a bad call on their behalf, they must be feeling sick that they didn't move quicker. They are parents too a lot of the security services and its easy to judge behind the lines but at the time given the conflicting info they sometimes have, it must be so difficult to judge when to act.

winnybella · 21/03/2012 09:57

Yeah...don't know, no one seems to be asking these questions yet, will see what the police has to say about it later on, I guess.

The guy said he would surrender in the afternoon, but right now he has stopped talking to the police.

I have a feeling he will kill himself.

winny

Yes I bet he'll feel a "martyr" then & be absolved of all crimes.

Will save the French tax payer a lot of money & the security forces the hassle, although I bet they'd like to question him about his connections.

winnybella · 21/03/2012 10:02

Yes, and I think a life in prison would be more of a punishment than quick death. He definitely wouldn't have a nice time of it, what with being a child murderer.

MrsMicawber- yes, that's the only thing that we can console ourselves with, that it happened very quickly and they died instantly.

So terrible.

The inernal affairs minister just said that he was under surveillance by anti-terrorist people for years. FFS. So they get the name of his brother (also suspected extremist) and they don't put 2 and 2 together?

winnybella · 21/03/2012 10:05

Agree, MrsMicawber. The source should be neutralized. But that is v.hard to do.

cardamomginger · 21/03/2012 10:14

Live coverage of funeral for those who would like to pay their respects from a distance. Only in Ivrit (Hebrew) and French, though. Baruch Dayan HaEmet.

winnybella · 21/03/2012 10:20

Thanks, cardamominger, but while it plays the screen is obscured by black box-it seems that I have to check one of the boxes but I don't understand what it says?

cardamomginger · 21/03/2012 10:21

Oh. Hang on.....

cardamomginger · 21/03/2012 10:22

I'm not getting that. Was it 2 boxes at the top, and then several boxes underneath with different age groups? If so, just tick anything.... They're just being nosy about your demographics!

winnybella · 21/03/2012 10:23

Yeah, that one. Thanks.

Looks like that's the end. Sorry - found this thread and posted rather late.

hermionestranger · 21/03/2012 10:29

Just a theory but I wonder if the fact that one f the soldiers was Muslim three the police/security sources of the scent? I guess they thought it couldn't be another Muslim who had done this and then the school shootings happened. Sad

The poor Mother if the siblings and parent. My heart goes out to her. My youngest son is Gabriel and it made me feel physically sick to see that the littlest one had the same name.

Awful.

winnybella · 21/03/2012 10:32

hermione- but I recall that police said after the second killings that he had no way to know beforehand that 2 of the soldiers were muslim, so that wouln't have been the motivation anyway.

yy MrsMicawber.

hermionestranger · 21/03/2012 10:34

Didn't know that, so that's that theory out.

Cruithne · 21/03/2012 12:21

the mother has now agreed to go and try to speak to him

its now being reported that he was 'broken out' of an afgan prison

winnybella · 21/03/2012 12:25

yy he was sentenced to 3 years in Afgan prison for laying bombs, then escaped during massive break out.

WTF were the French intelligence services doing? Apparently they were aware of his stunts in Pakistani and Afagan training camps so I presume they were aware of the prison sentence as well.

Northernlurker · 21/03/2012 12:26

Bossybritches - I'm a Christian and I'm about as liberal as they come. I'm also the mother of daughters and having read the details of the attack at the school I would be perfectly happy for them to shoot this man in the head. Which is why it's a good idea that it's not up to us I guess.
