2 1/2 year old and 18 mth old die in a fire...

...whilst parents ignored their screams due to having a romantic evening together... WTF?!
Just read this in The Mirror. Apaprently, the boys were terrors, and parents changed the door handle to be turned upwards to get out so they couldn't do it. 2 1/2 y.o. lit 11 matches near his brother's cot... parents thought they were playing up and refused to go and see them. They had 80% burns and died few weeks later.
Terrible tragedy.

OMG, how terrible

No comment on the parents at the moment - you never know how much is sensationalised by these tabloids.

Just so sad about those poor babies - their screams must have been terrifying.

What a horrible, drawn out painful death for them. My friend died in much the same way and knowing the suffering she went through made it all the worse.

Probably judging too soon, but, I can tell from my childrens cry, whether they are in pain, just having a tantrum or whatever.

This happened in my home town and is indeed a tragedy. What we have heard from the less sensationalist local press is that both parents had very low IQ's they had earlier in the day been warned by another adult that their ds was playing with matches to witch they replied he would be alright. There were indeed 11 spent matches next to the cot and the door handle had been turned upside down to make it more difficult for them to get out and a string contaption to keep it shut, although they cannot be clear if it was in place this night. The children were rescued by neighbours after the parents trioed and failed and the boys died in hospital months later. Very, very sad.

This is a tragedy and I hate the way the tabloids report, i have heard nothing in the local news about a 'romantic evening' it is clearly trying to paint a picture of selfish behaviour on the part of the parents where from what i can gather sadly they didn't know any better.

As one of the mums on here said - I can also say that I can distinguish between cries. You would have at least gone up to tell them off, wouldn't you?

Sorry but low IQ = excuse for behaviour that led to death of their children? I think not. How stupid do you have to be to not realise that you never let your child play with matches? Esp having been told that day by someone how dangerous it is?

sorry but a child acting up and a child screaming in agony sound very different. If they were really that stupid they shouldn't have been looking after the kids full stop, been a dumbass is no excuse.

Not sure how much I can/should say, but neighbours were having a Bar-B-Que, all adults were invited ifywim.

in the Times yesterday it says father had drink problems, both parents had "low intelligence"
The older boy had already burned his younger brother with matches in the past and it is said the fure started in his travel cot.
The court was told that the mother used to tie a t shirt between their door handke and another door to prevent it being opened too.

The lads were alive when rescued, the youngest died 12 days later the elder boy 2.5 months later from 80% burns
