Here At least she admitted it's wrong. Let's hope this will help her to stop?

She's not being hung! She just had that title taken away from her, and it wasn't even for this current year, its no biggie. She couldn't carry on being described as Mum Of The Year as a smoker ... could she?

MollieO · 06/03/2012 11:18

AF, weirdly there are women who will look up to SS and see her as a role model. They will think that if SS smokes then it must be ok if they do the same.

LilacWaltz · 06/03/2012 11:20

She's the 'mum goes to iceland' girl in the iceland ads!!

Maybe she will lose that next!

AnyFucker · 06/03/2012 11:27

Walk down your local high street, there are pg women smoking everywhere

I wish it was more of a social "crime", like drink driving became after many years being seen as "acceptable"

I don't think calling a foolish young woman like Stacey a "bad mother" is going to do it though, that smacks of punishment of women too much

Where are the men vilified for smoking around pg women? Yes, they aren't incubating babies, but I hate the way society feels it has the right to comment on a pg woman's behaviour. Take that to the Nth degree and what do we have ?

Beamur · 06/03/2012 11:28

This is more about the two faced and cynical nature of 'celebrity'.

Jmc88 · 06/03/2012 20:41

This is not setting a good example to young Mums.

Takemeout · 06/03/2012 20:51

I feel sorry for her too, she isnt the brightest little button, Im not a perfect mum either, i think she comes across as very normal, she obviously adores her son. Im sure this will all be chip paper news tomorrow.

In reference to my earlier comment about Morals i meant Natasha Giggs, eligible for such an award, and not slamming her.

EightiesChick · 06/03/2012 21:06

The 'brave' appearance on This Morning was a classic PR move to make her seem personable and vulnerable. Looks like it worked. On the PR front, too, it would be impossible to let someone publicly doing something known to harm the unborn child continue as Mum of the Year.

Lots of judging of pregnant women goes on and yes, it is annoying, but I see it slightly differently when a) the person concerned is being held up as a good role model and b) they are doing something about which there is clear clinical evidence that it's harmful (not the case for many of the behaviours for which pregnant women are criticised).

LilacWaltz · 06/03/2012 21:10

So she never even gave up.... She has smoked through the entire 7 months if her pregnancy and this pic of her being caught wasn't even a one off!! She is disgusting.... Really.. She knew what she was doing

pookle10 · 06/03/2012 21:19

she is only sorry because she has been caught!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 06/03/2012 21:19

I really like her.

She can't be 'Mum of the Year' and be a role model/someone that is 'looked up to' and smoke whilst pregnant, she just can't.

She was bloody stupid smoking in public.

She is even more stupid to smoke through her pregnancy. She has sufficient money to have tackled this a number of ways, but has chosen not to. She has gone down in my estimation - not that she gives a rats arse about that, but she has.

You don't have to be perfect to know that something someone else is doing is fucking stupid.

tethersend · 06/03/2012 21:22

How else is she going to stay thin?

Smoking in pregnancy is not a great idea, but I disagree that it makes her a terrible mother. There are plenty of terrible parents out there. This alone does not make her one of them.

LilacWaltz · 06/03/2012 21:25

What? Potentially damaging her unborn baby doesnt make her a bad mother?? Well what does? It's physically endangering her child... Or something similiar

tethersend · 06/03/2012 21:35

No Lilac, I don't think that alone makes her- or anyone- a bad mother. And I say that as a smoker who is currently pg and gave up as soon as I found out.

Do we count every mother who has had a termination as a bad mother too? That is not to say that a mother can do anything she likes to the foetus, but it is not as black and white as risk to unborn baby = bad mother.

4madboys · 06/03/2012 21:47

smoking in preg isnt good, i think we all know that but that alone doesnt make her a bad mum ffs

i smoked and then when got preg with ds1 i stopped, 9yrs later after i had ds4 i got post natal psychosis and ended up in a psych unit and started smoking again. i dont smoke much but i have since gone on to have another baby, for most of the pregnancy i didnt smoke but yes occasionlly i had a fag and i told my midwife, as i had already cut down my anti-depressents and they were worried that there was the possibility i may have a relapse with my mental health it was decided that actually the odd fag, or even up to 5 a day wouldnt actually harm the baby and that in the big scheme of things althought not good it was ok. like i said most of the time i didnt smoke but i did sometimes, with a partner working crazy hours and looking after 4 kids on my own, once i got them in bed sometimes i needed to go stand in the garden and have a fag, shoot me now (rolls eyes)

i didnt have any at all whilst bfeeding but once i stopped i did smoke and i still do, outside, mainly when my kids are in bed. i dont think that alone makes me a bad mother.

AnyFucker · 06/03/2012 22:11

I think it makes her a pregnant woman who has made poor choices

it doesn't make her a bad mother (on it's own)...that's a dangerous path to go down

iceandsliceplease · 06/03/2012 22:55

What 4madboys said.

mrscoleridge · 07/03/2012 20:49

Have a look at the stats on stillbirth and smoking-lots of evidence of a big link. Also obv connected to low birth weight, asthma etc. In some states in America it is illegal as endangering a child.

HeroFactory · 07/03/2012 20:51

She is totally out of order! Totally.

And when we hear sad news about her.....(which I hope we don't) ...

gamerwidow · 07/03/2012 21:05

Wow some massive over reactions on this thread.
Yes it is very very stupid to smoke when pregnant but it's hardly worth calling social services over.
Anecdotally my sister found it impossible to give up smoking when pregnant with her 3 DC had managed to cut down to 3 or 4 a day but not give up completely. Her midwife told her it wasn't ideal but putting herself under too much stress to give up the final few cigarettes a day would be more damaging.

nursenic · 07/03/2012 21:09

Those 'Mum Of The Year' awards are terribly declasse anyway....Wink

HeroFactory · 07/03/2012 21:15

Why did she Have so many children as a SMOKER

HeroFactory · 07/03/2012 21:16

The message 'smoking kills' doesn't apply then eh Hmm

nursenic · 07/03/2012 21:17

This is only her 2nd.

Let's everyone verbally hound and bully a pregnant woman because we all so bloody perfick as parents on here, aren't we?

AnyFucker · 07/03/2012 22:40

HF woud you enjoy having your "predictions" come true ?

wtf is wrong with you ?
