Bus driver knocked cyclist over on purpose!

here

What is even more shocking is some of the comments below the article.

I've read on here about anti cyclist sentiments, but never come across it like this. Everything but coming out and saying he deserved it!

No I didn't watch the video. It is local to me and I've seen it in our local paper. I didn't say the bus driver was right - in fact I did say he shouldn't have done it. I'm not a bus driver, and although I do drive I don't try to run people over. But what you are all saying is that the cyclist was angry so it was OK for him to try all these stupid little stunts with the bus? All he needed to do was ring the police no? Not mess about in front of it. What did he think that was going to achieve?

No I haven't been cut up by a bus on a bike because I don't ride a bike. I did buy one but cycling here is terrifying because of the actions of other cyclists. We have a huge population of dickhead cyclists here - the sort who don't think any rules apply to them at all. I have yet to see any considerate ones around, so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Iggly · 22/02/2012 22:41

Some drivers have a real sense of entitlement when driving, hence the appaling attitude towards cyclists and other road users. One reason I hate driving because of twats who think they're better drivers than they really are.

Outrageous behaviour from the driver! Although not surprising.

YuleingFanjo · 22/02/2012 22:46

you said "but the cyclist was equally culpable"

how?

you think he deserved it.

AnnieLobeseder · 22/02/2012 22:48

Gladys - maybe the cyclist was annoying. Since when is it OK to try to kill someone for being an utter muppet? Please look at the video. It's a miracle the cyclist wasn't killed. You can't just launch a bus at someone who is annoying you. It was attempted murder.

They always say that in this country, if you want to kill someone, do it by running them over - you'll get away pretty much scott-free.

And those anti-cyclist comments were chilling. It's a small minority of cyclists who are idiots. Some drivers are idiots too.

I cycle and I drive.

I don't hate all drivers when I cycle and wish bus-induced death on them, even when they manage not to notice me in my high-vis pink clothes and flashing lights and knock me off.

Similarly I don't wish bus-induced death on all cyclists when one runs a red light or holds me up when I'm driving.

Madness!!!

AThingInYourLife · 22/02/2012 22:54

LOL @ banging on the back of a bus being the equivalent of driving into a person with a bus :o

Some people are such dicks.

ivykaty44 · 23/02/2012 10:00

All he needed to do was ring the police no?

why would anyone telephone the police, they don't attend traffic accidents let alone want to know about complaints about bad driving or speeding.

There isn't anyone to call about this type of offence - which is life threatening. That is probably the point on all this that due to there not being any defence against such stupidity cyclists take matters into their own hands.

PestoPenguin · 23/02/2012 10:32

"But what you are all saying is that the cyclist was angry so it was OK for him to try all these stupid little stunts with the bus? "

Nope, never said that. In fact I have not made any comment on the cyclist's behaviour. I was just commenting that no-one has the right to use a bus as a weapon. this comment still stands regardless of what the other person did. To suggest otherwise is very very odd.

slug · 23/02/2012 10:44

Like most cyclists, I also own a drivers licence. Consequently, despite what is written in the comments, I know the road rules. I know there is nothing in the Highway Code that says it's OK to attempt to kill someone in a fit of pique.

As a cyclist you are incredibly vulnerable. I don't blame the car drivers who have knocked me off by opening their doors without checking, that's just a momentary lapse of attention and one I doubt they will do again after seeing a cyclist going flying over their bonnet. However, the woman who knocked me down by turning left in front of me had no excuse. Her excuse was I hadn't indicated. How the hell I was supposed to indicate to a car behind that I was going straight on and therefore had the right of way was slightly beyond me.

Local to me too so I hope i dont meet you when I cycle Gladys. I'm a considerate cyclist. A bit slow so you might have to wait on a narrow road but I obey al the road rules. I have had a city Bus hit me and yes I took the number, went to the First Office who werent interested. Went to the Police and reported it all and nothing happenend.

And given I live in the same city as you I know most of the cyclists are considerate. As aremost drivers. But there's a lot of congestion, a lot of fustration and the minority of dickkead drivers here endanger very vunerable cyclists who are not surrounded by one ton of metal.
And this city is well known for the red light rule which says 'at least 6 more cars can speed through when the lights are red'

SardineQueen · 23/02/2012 11:48

Christ almighty some people are thick / deranged / horrible.

You cannot go around driving vehicles at people because they get on your nerves. I can't believe anyone actually thinks that. Although clearly, looking at the situation on the roads, a lot of people do.

AThingInYourLife · 23/02/2012 11:51

" I know there is nothing in the Highway Code that says it's OK to attempt to kill someone in a fit of pique."

Are you sure, though?

Are you sure?

How can motorists be expected to share the road with people on bikes without occasional recourse to murderous rage?

I've seen people in cars delayed from joining the traffic jam in front of them because some asshole thought riding a bike gave him the same right to be on the road as any other vehicle user!

Don't these fuckers realise that we'd all be better off with more of us in cars?

Traffic gridlock is the dream. Killing cyclists is only one of the ways we will get there.

KalSkirata · 23/02/2012 11:51

Really SQ? What about the annoying wanker with the bass beat in his Ford Fiesta? Not even him?

SardineQueen · 23/02/2012 11:53

Me crashing into his car with my baby isn't going to do very much Confused

Car music doesn't really bother me anyway Smile

SardineQueen · 23/02/2012 11:56

another case here

equally shocking
why aren't these people being done for attempted murder?
The van driver in this clip was done for careless driving. Careless???

I´m a regular driver and cyclist in a cycling friendly country. It never fails to astound me just how vicious and unforgiving people seem to be of cyclists in England. Appauling driving is accepted and fast forgotten. But travelling on 2 wheels seems to be seen as a cardinal sin, to the extent that many people sympathize with a bus driver who could have killed a man!

It´s a terrible shame! I never cycle in England because it´s clearly too dangerous compared to where I live. In places like the Netherlands and Flanders everyone accepts, welcomes and RESPECTS the cyclist. Cycle lanes are pretty much everywhere with cyclist priority and stopping area right at the traffic lights. People do not complain about being held up by a cyclist even when sharing a lane driving through town. Cycle lanes are cleared of snow much more reliably than the roads! Car drivers are automatically responsible in the case of any accident. The result? People do get on their bikes! They use them as much as they can. Schoolchildren go to school and activities on their bikes. People pay less on petrol, parents aren´t part time chauffeurs. Everyone wins! Torrential rain seems to be the only reason people here don´t get on their bikes and the resultant traffic jams are awful.

Riding a bike makes life much much easier. It´s fun, pretty much free and keeps you fit. I wish more people knew it ; ) Rant over.

ragged · 23/02/2012 12:43

The Times is still running its Safety Campaign for Cyclists, good insert in today's issue.

lol @ AThingIYL

ivykaty44 · 23/02/2012 12:54

People in UK are slaves to petrol and can't see that there is another way to get around, they can't see that for very bike that holds them up for 2 seconds that person could be in a car holding them up for 6 minutes - the rational just doesn't seem to be there and the only reason i can see is they want to moan about cyclists and the price of petrol
