I can't help being cynical with this woman, she has proven herself to be so devious in the past. Looks like she is intent on making us all like her so she gets to sit with Charles as his queen :(
It will not work with me.

In fact the monarchy pretty much pays for itself, since the revenues from the Crown Estate were ceded to the Treasury by George III in return for the civil list payments.

But they don't pay compulsary taxes do they....we'd all be better off if we didn't have to pay taxes...and what about the civil list - have I missed something, is that zero now?

When I think of the big fuss that is made of Fat Cats earning a huge salary atm and not a murmur about the Queen - let's get the old bird a new boat for a pressie, why not...she deserves it...all that hardship.

The Crown Estate revenues far exceed the civil list payments, and it's only the Queen and the DofE who receive CL payments now. And the Queen has paid tax for a number of years now. It is true that the monarch used to be exempt from taxation, but that is something she has voluntarily changed.

But the tax the queen pays is voluntary, she determines how much - bad year, she pays bugger all!

It's mandatory for the rest of us - we've had a bad year can we pay less?

I'm sure that's why lots of bankers have argued for bigger salaries which is fair enough but why aren't we attacking the queen and all her excessive wealth atm? Is she untouchable?

I guess I just don't get all the anger towards the fat cats and no one includes her! - we pay her! They all work their butts off and they all screw up am- why is she untouchable?

As I understand it, the queen does pay a tax on the personal allowance she receives each year but does not pay taxes on the income of the estate which is then ploughed back into the estate. It does not come to her personally. I think it's dreadful what estate taxes did to many old families after WW2 (who did not necessarily have a lot of ready money) especially when so many of them served. Not that the queen would be in danger of being made bankrupt but I generally think that taxes on the worth of an estate (not the income) are a very, very bad idea.

I can't imagine she's bothered if she's queen or consort tbh.

If she can't be queen - maybe he shouln't be king. They both did wrong. I thought we were over all that now - and they are forgiven.
