I can't help being cynical with this woman, she has proven herself to be so devious in the past. Looks like she is intent on making us all like her so she gets to sit with Charles as his queen :(
It will not work with me.

I think a lot of people who generally support the monarchy would have trouble ethically with this woman on the throne. Ah well, lets just hope Queen Elizabeth lives a very long time - she has been a real treasure and totally befitting her position. I am amazed anyone believes Camilla doesn't give a toss, she has had her sights on the role since the start. As for Wills and Harry, good luck to them and of course they should get on with her. It doesn't make it (Queen Camilla)ok though. I am glad she and Charles appear to have found contentment but I can recognise spin when I see it.
Private Eye is excellent on this...

"Oh FFS the article was about her MIL not about her. Get it right OP."
Have you heard of spin? What's the point, the aggressive tone is depressing.

I've always liked camilla. And would take 100 camilla's over one simpering, deceitful diana

What agressive tone?

Lissie I agree with you entirely.

That may be so but these people who support the monarchy presumably understand how it works, namely the fact it isn't up to them but to accidents of birth and whims of marriage.

The Royal Family are not paragons of virtue, that's spin - and done very successfully during some sticky periods in European history generally.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 25/01/2012 22:02

I've heard of spin and I've heard of conspiracy theories.

As I say, it's the Queen's Jubilee and it would be very odd if the heir's wife didn't do some kind of activity during the year to mark it. It's not surprising that they might want to find the modern equivalent of Coronation Chicken and why shouldn't she work for her living by facing up that activity.

(I'm sceptical as to whether it's really work but that's a different issue)

sozzledchops · 25/01/2012 22:02

i don't support the monarchy but have no problem with Camilla being Queen, here's to Queen Camilla, plus it will be funny to see it getting right up the noses of those sat clutching their pearls in disgust.

bkgirl · 25/01/2012 22:07

Seriously, why would anyone risk having a debate here when you get this...
"Oh FFS the article"
"oh who gives a fuck? really?"
"Oh FFs. "

Fine, have an opinion but as for the language....

this type of thing does make me laugh. So infidelity is ok, as long as it doesn't involve feelings, but rather a (married) sport star, a cad and several toffs? This portrait that that has been painted of diana as some sort of sweet innocent, cruelly cast out by her husband in favour of the evil temptress is a little old. Diana was the consummate manipulator who aired her dirty knickers as often as possible. At least camilla has a little dignity. I hope she gets to be queen, if that's what she wants. But I'd rather they were happy.

tribpot · 25/01/2012 22:09

I think most of the posters have disagreed with you respectfully, bkgirl. And the robustness of the swearing is meant as a tribute to the royal family, who are known to curse with the best of 'em (or was that just the Queen Mum?)

OracleInaCoracle · 25/01/2012 22:11

And as for the language. We swear here. Its not new.

fivegomadindorset · 25/01/2012 22:15

My ffs was purely due to my frustration at the spin you put on an inocquious article.

bkgirl · 25/01/2012 22:16

No problem with anyone disagreeing, I really do appreciate getting the opinions and was genuinely interested if anyone had changed their opinion about Camilla over the years.
I do actually like the monarchy, I just am rather cynical of Lord Blackadder (Mark Bolland) and his legacy.

No it's fucking not Grin

2rebecca · 25/01/2012 22:20

I like her and was never a Lady Di fan. You get to be monarch by breeding and marriage. They don't vote on it or do opinion polls. It hasn't turned into monarch by x-factor yet.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 25/01/2012 22:21

"genuinely interested if anyone had changed their opinion about Camilla over the years"

Ah now that's a different question altogether.

I still don't like hereditary monarchy. So no, haven't changed my mind.

bkgirl · 25/01/2012 22:24

I know how a hereditary monarch works. That said, public opinion must weigh heavy on Queen Elizabeths mind and although she has said she will be on the throne 'till she dies - if she thought she could safely step down, perhaps she would.

OP posts:
bkgirl · 25/01/2012 22:25

oops monarchy not monarch

Funny, I was once taken blindfolded to do an interview on an ex ira terrorist in Belfast (before the Good Friday agreement), I noticed a pile of "Hello" mags" and asked why him and his wife read them. They said they loved Diana and quite liked the queen! I was shell shocked.

OP posts:
fivegomadindorset · 25/01/2012 22:40

Ah journalist.

Solo · 25/01/2012 22:41

Hate CPB. Personally don't want her to be 'Queen' but it will be, what it will be I guess. William and Harry are trained and professional and we are unlikely to know exactly what they think about her. It would be unseemly.

2rebecca · 25/01/2012 22:45

Perhaps she wouldn't either. You are traditionally monarch until you die. I've never understood the tabloids articles on queenie "stepping down" as though monarchs had a retirement age. You're monarch until you die or you abdicate. Queenie dies and the next in line then takes over. that's how it works. No stepping down, no popularity contests. One rich aristocrat takes over from another.
