26000 cap what it would mean to me

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

It is all really confusing and quite scary for anyone how is disabled or who cares for a disabled family member. Er aren't the disabled a part of community we should try and protect?
Taking the CA away from people who are disabled is unfair, they already discount carers under 18 or over 65.

I completely understand the need for Cap's on payments of benefits but as usual with this govt it is too fast and too hard with what seems very little planning on how it will affect real people. A lot of people are getting scared about these caps and especially the new PIP and UC as they can't seem to fathom how they will work. HuntyCat It might just be me but your working out above had me completely stumped. Why they can't make decisions and have final figures before they let the Daily Fail scare everyone into thinking they will be homeless I don't know.

Portofino · 26/01/2012 23:34

I agree there is a danger in MNetters working out entitlement before it is all finalised. THC said £56 a week, my calculation is closer to £270. There is a world of difference between those 2 numbers.

TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 06:06

think rthe problem is no one know what it means ,hence why people are calling for it to be slowed down

porto

You used differnt figures i used the actual figures from what i was paying out the previous 2 years

OP posts:
FoofFighter · 27/01/2012 08:07

Doesnt it strike you though porto that if the fugire you worked out, £270, is bloody high and therefore probably not accurate?

Portofino · 27/01/2012 08:56

That figure was arrived at using the UC calculated and later using Hunty Cat's numbers. If you run a lp with 4 dependant children through the Turn2Us calculator - so entitlement as it currently is - it comes up with a figure of £2067 per month. Take off rent and bills - that leaves around £1000. Through the maintenance back in and you end up with around £250 a week - so my guess is that the UC estimate is reasonable.

Portofino · 27/01/2012 09:01

It sounds a lot. But bearing in mind that money has to feed and clothe 5 people and pay for everything else - it's not really.

TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 09:30

ah porto my figures are not Hunty cats so mine was differnet think thats where confusion is ,

mine when did them properly ignoring the disabilty side as expecting that to go under PIP came to £86 a week for 5 of us though confusion as no one knows if school dinners will come out to so it may be £116 per week plus my £5 matieance a week

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 09:33

my figures

£26000

£13200 to the Landlord

£1950 council tax benefit times 12

1065 free school dinners £7.10 a day.

Eletric £1040

gas £1040

Water £720

outgoings of £17950

£375 add in dinners for ds1 at collage consertive £2.50 a day(though no one knows if this be added to or not

£240add in his top of £8 bus fares

rent top of £1200 a year

someone ele can checik as doing on paper but ima round £21515 outgoings

and i suspect that under UC Im actually being generous on the £26000 thing as maxium i supect i wont get the maxium

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 09:42

intresting i just done the sums single parent 3dc

ok iin the UC calculator based on sinle parent no disbalites 3 dc as ds1 be adult by time it comes in

my income will be £454 a week support

JSa £67.a week

Housing award 239 a week

child support award £157 a week

£1816 per 4 weeks

now we take out my former rent of £1200 per caendar month

£616 left

OP posts:
Portofino · 27/01/2012 09:48

Don't forget your child benefit! I thought your rent was 720 a month?

TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 09:59

so i know i been speding £100 a month each GAs and eletric

so using those sums

Im down to £414 per 4 weeks

my water was 720 over the year £55 per 4 week time

£359 per 4 weeks

this time i have not taken away school dinners as no one know is they will or wil not be included

I then meant to top my rent up by 240 a month

so £119 per 4 weeks left

divide that by 4

so that leaves £29.75 a week for food/clothes/travel for 4 of us

so £4.25 in total or if you wnat ot per person a day £1.06 a day

now can add on they say i can keep £50 a week but wil depend If CB is included in UC and the goverment are determinded, it may that it will be I can keep £50 a week of that

so slighlty better at £79 .75 weeK but thats only so £11.39 a day for 4 people

that has to include travel clothes food household stuf

Now before anyone trys to say but ah your disabled so different

  1. under PIP I will no longer be classed as disabled
  2. Im still going to be disabled so not as easy as that to move i would still need a accessible wheelchair house
  3. im still going have all the extra costs of being disabled but without the extra help
OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 09:59

porto

Im not hunty cat .These are my figures

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 10:01

porto thing is no one knows about CB the goverement is adamt that it will be included in UC total and your see i have added it in at the maxoum of extra £50 a week that i cna have on top os what they told me

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 10:04

and im being generous as CB wil be £48 a week so i may have allowed myself extra £2 a week .

Now if they decide that free school dinners needs to be included in UC as it is a benefit then im well and truely screwed and they better feed my dc well becuase nothing left

Also no counciltax benefit subtracted becuase it be down to local council to decide and set that one up .

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 10:07

so if were being correc then Cb be £47.10 a week so was being over genrou rounding up to £50

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 10:08

but i could maybe add the £5 a week matienace i get to

OP posts:
Portofino · 27/01/2012 10:13

The govt says it will be included in the CAP - if your UC is less than the cap, you will still get CB.

TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 10:17

but figures still stand then as i allowed £50 as the extra when infact it is not

  • can add on they say i can keep £50 a week but wil depend If CB is included in UC and the goverment are determinded, it may that it will be I can keep £50 a week of that

so slighlty better at £79 .75 weeK but thats only so £11.39 a day for 4 people*

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 27/01/2012 10:19

i roudned up cb to £50 and added it on to my totals already

But think im going to stop looking as it is scarey

I jsut had a letter home from Ds2 school asking for £82 for school teip to do with his Geography now admittley it is not complusary but it also says the work there be doing ater based on what they did is 25% of their total mark

OP posts:
EssentialFattyAcid · 27/01/2012 18:26

HC I don't understand why you are paying twice as much on gas, electric and water as most of the rest of us and why you don't get 25% off your council tax for being the only adult at the property.

Also Child Benefit for 3 kids is £2,450 per annum

There are not 1065 school dinners at £7.10 per day. £7.10 is the daily cost for 3 children added together - multiply by the number of school days in the year which is 190 but you have multiplied by 1065 so the maths is completely wrong on this.

You should be much better off than your own calculations indicate. Hardly to say you will be flush with money, but far better off than your figures indicate - and thank goodness because £56 a week would be grim indeed.

bradbourne · 27/01/2012 18:31

I'm afraid I gave up trying to understand THC's sums - sorry.

(Whilst the gas and electricity bills are indeed high, the amount strikes me as completely feasible and similar to what we pay. A shocking amount. Just got an electricity monitor earlier today, to see if we can cut down at all - it was "free" from our electricity company Eon - maybe useful for some to know).

bradbourne · 27/01/2012 18:34

Re the Geography trip - from memory, if a trip is part of the school curriculum, thaen a child cannot be excluded on the basis of the parent's inability to pay. (Used to be a school governor).

Perhaps you could contact the school and ask for an exemption (or a reduced contribution)? Don't be shy - it happens more often than you might think and no-one else need know, if for any reason you don't want them to.

PinkoLiberal · 27/01/2012 18:43

Bills tend to be higher for physically disabled people anyway- harder to keep warm all day plus increased likelihood of being in all day.

PinkoLiberal · 27/01/2012 18:43

Plus of course in THC's case such things as using leccy to charge a wheelchair! It's obvious when you think about it, but I forgot!
