yes the prices shot up in Peacocks didn't they. its a shame.

I know plenty of people that will miss Pumpkin Patch, its a real shame.

I went into Peacocks today, they have some fabs bits. I love that you can buy the odd thing and mix it in with better quality other bits.

Yes, it seems to employ alot of young people. Its gutting and really scary. I think the internet has a lot to answer for.

:( My nearest Primarni is in the next city. Bit gutted about this, as not many other places I can afford to shop in our town.

Also gutted to see Pumpkin Patch go. :(

I'm about less upset about Pumpkin Patch closing - we bought DS a coat from their last winter (more than I would usually pay) and t literally was falling apart within a few weeks, manager wouldn't et me return it, had to get help from trading standards and eventually got a refund but manager was unhelpful and obstructive leaving my DS without a suitable winter coat to wear.

Their offers can be good when they have sales on and buy one, get one half price (including the sale items), but I no longer shop in our local one due to the extremely poor service I got from the manager.

Again though, sad for more people losing their jobs.

I love peacocks for their hosiery, undies, and the odd item of clothing for me and dd. Sometimes it's the only place in this town that has what I want, it's good for el cheapo office wear too.

So many shops have closed this horrible :( and the poor staff :(

I went in there today and the girl told me that they would still be open until march. They hardly had anything left in my size already though, so it will probably be empty by then.

I was annoyed that they had loads of girls things in the sale though, and absolutely nothing in the sale for boys.

I've kind of bumbled along not too affected by the economic downtown apart fromthe obvious belt tightening re fuel and food - but it has really hit me this week. Good friend is manager of Peacocks, she's set to lose her job she thinks, and local ELC due to close, know all of the staff to chat to and so sad they will all lose their jobs. Loved Pumpkin Patch too.
My town centre is a ghost town, it is depressing and desolate.

Peacocks is apparently trading profitably with a strong business model, so here's hoping a buyer can be found.

hope so stress. it's important to our little town too. what chance do the independent shops have if the biggest one here has to go. Peacocks is a draw for people to shop in our small town, esp and obviously mums.

Yet their prices had shot up imo.

The problem with the business models of companies such as Mothercare wanting to move to retail parks will become apparent soon. People are becoming less and less able to afford/justify the expense of the petrol to get to these places. And 9 times out of 10 they aren't served by public transport.

WRT Peacocks price rise - I think they managed to keep prices down for a long time after the price of raw materials rocketed.

But they were killed off by a decision from the RBS, an institution that should have been allowed to die and not saved by the taxpayer.

Just read about the sale of Bon Marche stores and loss of 1400 jobs
I used to work in a Bon Marche store a couple of years ago and am really upset about this. Lots of little old ladies used to come in two or three times a week just to get out and about and chat to the staff - there was a lovely community-spirited atmosphere in the store. Really hope it stays open.
