bbc and sky both saying for precautionary tests after chest pain, bbc says they don'y know if he will be kept in overnight.

southeastastra · 23/12/2011 21:08

there's been alot of documentaries about him on tv these past few days, perhaps viewing fergie's wedding pushed him over the edge!

hope he's ok - i do like him

ObviouslyLovesTinsel · 23/12/2011 22:09

Thought Nicholas Witchell looked very ill? Almost looked as old as Prince Philip.

Chubfuddler · 23/12/2011 22:12

With you there! Good old predictive text.

He's always looked ancient (NW not PP)

All the best old chap

3inABIRDsnest · 23/12/2011 22:16

He's a bit of an idiot. I know you're not supposed to say that though when people might be dying.
Poor queen though, she must be very worried.

EdithWeston · 23/12/2011 22:18

I hope it's just a scare. BBC reported that there is concern, but not alarm, about his condition. And Papworth has to be one of the best places to be.

Christmas is a crap time to be ill, so best wishes to him - and to everyone else needing hospital over the next few days, their families and all the clinical and other staff who will be looking after them.

susiedaisy · 23/12/2011 22:18

Hope prince Philip is ok and whole were on the subject, god doesnt George Michael look dreadful, he must of been really ill with pneumonia as well,

adamschic · 23/12/2011 22:23

Old people have a habit of checking out, tis the circle of life. Don't know why anyone is surprised tbh. If I get to his age I'd be happy to go. God bless him.

sitandnatter · 24/12/2011 08:07

He's had a stent, it is a very routine procedure, though they don't normally do it on 90 year olds.

etJeviensEntretesReindeers · 24/12/2011 08:11

Does a blocked coronary artery = a heart attack?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 24/12/2011 08:37

Not necessarily. But the stent is a preventative procedure against heart attack. He's pretty robust, by all accounts. Hope he gets better soon.

ginmakesitallok · 24/12/2011 08:40

wouldn't half ruin xmas telly if he pops it today....

melliebobs · 24/12/2011 08:40

No blocked artery doesn't always mean a heart attack. For a heart attack the cardiac muscle needs to have been Starved of oxygen. And so with a blockage this doesn't always happen cos it may only be partial. Which by the sounds of it if has had a stent over a bypass would be the case.

etJeviensEntretesReindeers · 24/12/2011 10:12

Thanks. I did read a link in the Telegraph with a quote from the consultant cardiologist saying it was probably a heart attack, or something, though hopefully it was like you say just on the way to being one rather than full on stoppage.

higgle · 30/12/2011 16:32

DH commented that if he had not been a member of the royal family he would have been left on a trolley with a DNR note pinned to his chest.

choccyp1g · 30/12/2011 16:34

Saw in the newspapers yesterday that a chef at Sandringham was also taken ill with chest pains, suspected heart attack, and was driven to the local hospital

No room in the helicopter for the staff, eh?

EdithWeston · 30/12/2011 16:35

higgle I think your DH is both factually wrong, and out of step with experience posted by MNetters. You might like to invite him to have a look at this thread.
