George Galloway on BB?!?!?

DH just texted me to tell me this. Our MP is on Big Brother? This is a sign of the end times, right? What on earth is going on?

I don't actually believe that. Galloway is certainly lacking in charm publicly (although privately who knows?) but tbh I'm reluctant to make any judgement about him based on an extremely hostile media. I don't suppose he's any more self-serving than any other MP, but he gets a much more hostile press.

That's why it's so fascinating that he's on BB - it'll be interesting to see what he's really like in that sort of odd situation, without seeing it through the lens of a very hostile media.

Tinker · 06/01/2006 10:09

Oh, surely everyone recognises Pete Burns!!!!

aelita · 06/01/2006 10:14

Well we have one of his constituents in this thread who could give us an idea of how he actually is without the hostile media element. The 2 I know weren't particuarly impressed last time we discussed him.

I don't think I could face BB now just on his behalf..and besides, don't participants complain regularly that the programme is 'cleverly edited' to make them appear how the producers see fit ?

I lived in Bethnal Green for many years before we moved up north last year. I thought Oona King was a terrible MP towards the end of her reign , she certainly wasn't representing the beliefs of the majority of her constituency, parictularly over the Iraq war. That's why they got rid of her. However, at least she went to parliament to debate and to vote. What on earth is George Galloway doing fannying around on Big Brother, what does he hope to achieve?

snowleopard · 06/01/2006 10:19

You should have seen me and DP when GG appeared after the troop of mostly nonentities went in. Jaws on the floor.

Enid · 06/01/2006 10:21

I quite fancy denis rodman

do you think its a pg thing?

aelita · 06/01/2006 10:21

Well it did seem as if people fell hook, line and sinker for the notion that their MP should be elected on a single issue only, with not much thought to how their domestic needs and interests would be repesented after the media-scrum was over. Does Galloway look after these? No-one seems to have an answer yet...

Marina · 06/01/2006 10:23

Not these days Tinker ! He's, um, changed rather a lot since the glory days of Dead or Alive...
Twig, I'm afraid GLC will also only ever mean one thing to me, and it's not Your Mother's Got a Penis or whatever.
Chantelle is the hard-to-spot actual non-celeb, but I would never have known this if Davina had not emphatically told me so.
I did recognise Faria Alam though, and Gorgeous George. My money is on these two charmers to get it together...
And to think I was just passing the time between the end of ER and the start of the fabulous Ricky Gervais meets Larry David...

Marina · 06/01/2006 10:23

Enid! He's got spikes in his face and no keks on FGS. How many babies have you got in there?

Enid · 06/01/2006 10:23

lol marina me too (passing time)

but I fell asleep during ricky (have sky +'d though)

Enid · 06/01/2006 10:24

I know

but he is so........massive

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 10:25

GLC = Goldie Lookin' Chain. A Welsh rap group. Very funny lyrics. Ok, quite rude, too. But funny with it. They do not take themselves seriously, at least not in their music.

I think Dennis Rodman is sexy, at least in theory.

OP posts:
Enid · 06/01/2006 10:26

he (the one from goldie looking chain) is one of the ugliest men I have ever seen in my life

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 10:27

They do sing very sexy music, the GLC do.

You might bust a pelvic floor laughing at the Ricky when you catch up with it, I missed much of Curb Your Enthusiasm but on the basis of what I saw last night I can see why people rave about him.
You are obviously nor talking about Mr Rod-Man's brian...

Marina · 06/01/2006 10:28

It's OK NQC, I am Goldie Lookin' Chain enabled really... it's just I was an impressionable and angry teen when Maggie T started closing in on our beloved GLC

dieselten · 06/01/2006 10:29

There is a precdent for successful single issue voting ie Martin Bell. It worked well in that constituency because Martin Bell was essentially a good man with the right motives. I suspect George Galloway's motives don't extend beyond his own self promotion. I wouldn't have voted form him had I still lived in Bethnal Green but I wouldn't have voted for Oona King either.

Tinker · 06/01/2006 10:29

Was trying to be a bit ironic Marina Faria Alam is quite sad, going on about Adam and Eve. In today's Indie she says that she "could get famous from this or end up bsck where she is now which would be terrible" - am paraphrasing but = the gist.

Enid · 06/01/2006 10:30

I saw the poker game clip and dh and I were in hysterics

Marina · 06/01/2006 10:32

I was virtuously compiling a photo album of the children at the same time Enid (you did say to do housework when the kids were in bed ) - so was not fully engaged as it were. Did you get as far as the shouting out obscenities in the restaurant - the man is a disgusting genius!

Caligula · 06/01/2006 10:33

Is Dennis Rodman the thick basketball player?

I'm with Enid. Without the carbuncles in his face, he'd be seriously attractive.

Marina · 06/01/2006 10:33

Sorry Tink! I was just gobsmacked when I saw PB. And yes, I do actually feel quite sorry for Faria Alam. I think doing the programme might damage her in a way that most of the other gristly c-listers are way beyond already...

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 10:50

Is Faria Alam the woman who worked for some sort of sports association and slept with people? Or have I got her confused with someone?

OP posts:
Enid · 06/01/2006 10:52

thats about the size of it NQC
