Girl rescued after police chase
A three-year-old girl who had allegedly been kidnapped from her home in South Wales has been rescued after a police chase in the early hours of Tuesday.
A police spokesman said a 26-year-old man from South Wales was arrested after his Escort crashed on the A4 between Hungerford and Marlborough.

The man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and driving with excess alcohol.

The child was taken by helicopter to Swindon's Great Western Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

She has now been reunited with her parents.

'Failed to stop'

Police say they first spotted a grey Ford Escort in Swindon where it drove through a red light at the Blagrove roundabout.

Officers pursued the car along the M4 for about four miles where it left at junction 15 before heading for 10 miles down the A4 towards Hungerford where it crashed.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a grey L-registration Ford Escort Ghia driving along the M4 eastbound, or in west Swindon around junction 16, late last night or shortly after midnight, to contact them.

The man has now been handed over to South Wales Police. "

Seems like it was just chance that she was found. So glad she is safe.

Just read about this and feel so disgusted and angry, how could an adult do this to such a tiny child? Where is the sexual attraction in a 3 year old? It beggars belief. I honestly believe they should be taken outside and shot. Instead as others are saying they'll get a few years in a cushy prison hooked up to the net getting more sick images then get released to do it again!

bunny3 · 05/01/2006 12:11

cant read this thread or the links, makes me too upset and angry. Suffice to say I hoe these bastards get everything they deserve and more. f*cking hell

ruty · 05/01/2006 12:12

i really don't understand how members of the human race can do something like this, and why they would want to. Something more has to be done about paedophiles. Not enough is being done to protect our children. People call reactions to these things hysterical or irrational, well i'm sorry, but if it was their child they might think differently. I think child sex offenders should get life. Always.

Been reading papers today - it appears the little girl was on her way to bed at around 10pm (?!) and her mother was on the phone to the grandmother at the time - apparently her daughter was in the hall just few feet away from her, and must've been lured outside quietly by one of the kidnappers (sweets or whatever)... Mother noticed 2 mins. later that her daughter was nowhere to be seen and the front door ajar. Aparently the guys took her first to a house that shelters convicted prisoners after their release, and I pressume after the rape there, they took her for a drunken 80mph ride doing god knows what to her in the car... She must've been terrified, poor little soul (my dd is 2.5 and I've been physically sick since reading the story). She was thrown out of the car as the car somersaulted on the road. Now she's "safe" at home, she's been asking for her dummy and won't talk much. The examiners said she was raped and sexualy abused by at least 2 of the men... They've all been caught and are in no relationship with the little girl or her family.
Lets hope they get life (which is unlikely as she's still alive) and/or get killed and raped in prison! I'm sorry if this is against anyone's human rights beliefs - I don't believe they deserve any. Who would hurt little child like that it's just beyond humanity.

I think on here we need to stay away from judging the parents.
A 3yr old going to bed at 10pm as a special treat after a family party is nothing to criticise the parents over. Nor is your child being in the hall whilst you're on the phone in another room.

They had their daughter in their own home. She was not being dragged around the streets or left in the corner of a pub. They had every right to assume she was safe.

If her mum is a m'netter, I for one, don't want her coming on here and seeing her parenting being scrutinised or worse criticised. If you are a m'netter, Hun, then we're all thinking of you.

MerryXmas · 05/01/2006 12:56

The little girl was in her own family home - with her family - surely what time she was going to bed shouldn't be an issue here! Plenty of little ones are up at that time during the holidays. Don't think there will be any staff at the halfway house as they'll be on probation probably until released properly into the community. I hope the nasty men are never again released - it beggers belief - hanging is too good - they should have their genitals removed and placed on their heads to show everyone what evil deeds they have done. Poor little girl - hope she recovers and leads a happy, normal life with her loving family. It's shocking.

NewYearsRacerLution · 05/01/2006 13:18

Like others I am sickened and horrified about this. I've only just had a cry for some reason though I keep thinking about it so I don't know why now and not before. There hasn't been much on the news so all I know is what I've read here. About the news coverage, I wonder if the family has requested that there isn't much attention - it would be understandable anyway but particularly with other (presumably older) children around.

Just feeling so utterly sad and upset to think of what this poor girl has been through and hope she and the family get all the help and support they need. Let's also hope the arrests can lead to further arrests and maybe prevent this and worse happening to others.

Janh · 05/01/2006 13:25

Apparently the halfway house consisted of bedsits, it wasn't a hostel with supervision, but surely to god men with paedophile tendencies shouldn't be released unsupervised?

When the car crashed it rolled, and she was thrown out of the windscreen - it's a miracle that she only suffered cuts to the head.

According to the BBC website:

WHY isn't there a central police information centre for situations like this - or is there? The piece kind of implies that the Wilts police knew it was the "certain car", but it reads as if they wouldn't have spotted it if it had had its headlights on - full enquiry into this aspect needed I think.

MrsWood · 05/01/2006 13:27

Sorry, my post wasn't meant to imply there was something wrong with the parent's actions - we quite often talk to people on the phone whilst dd is playing in the house. It could happen to anyone of us and I'm always for not judging the parents in tragedy such as this one. They must be blaming themselves enough already. I know I would be even if it wasn't my fault. You always want to do best for your kids and sometimes doing everything just isn't enough. It's come to the point, as we've seen in cases of the 6 y.o. girl and now 3 y.o. girl, that our children are no longer safe in their own homes (that's what comment on being "safe" home was about). It's terrible world we live in and these animals should be severly punished...

homemama · 05/01/2006 13:33

Mrswood, my post wasn't specifically directed at you. I had just noticed a few people pointing out the time and the fact that her mum didn't see it. Just didn't want the thread to turn nasty in a 'well if she was a better mother it wouldn't of happened' type of way!

Piffle · 05/01/2006 19:38

It also said on ch 4 news just now that another girl was appraoched in the street just an hour or so before the abduction of that little girl, the girl was older and refused to get in so they drove off
and also the girl will not return home, I presume it was alleged due to fear of what happened.
Police are talking to her too....
God I hope there is a higher force that will ruin these mens lives........

PeachyClair · 05/01/2006 20:08

The paedophiles in this case live 5 minutes walk from me.

and scary to know the halfway house for sex offenders is there now, right by a school too.

Maddison88 · 05/01/2006 21:26

I read this yesterday after picking up my son from school and am still shaking inside. It's just absolutely shocking and heartbreaking. To happen to such a young child, a toddler, is utterly beyond belief. Some items of the news have shocked me to the core recently, BUT THIS. I just sat down and cried and raged that it had happened. You just feel so helpless when faced with something as sick and evil as this. At least whatever she was being put through was stopped when the car crashed. Otherwise, as its already been mentioned, the outcome could have been much worse. I just hope and pray that with the love of her family and professional help/support, the little angel can somehow get through this. She is so, so young. In the words of my 7yr old son about his 3yr old sister: "she's so sweet mummy - a little angel sent from heaven". Children are so precious, we need to do everything in our power to protect them always.

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 05/01/2006 21:35

The more I hear about this the more I think "they aren't safe anywhere" and it scares the bejesus out of me

PeachyClair · 05/01/2006 21:40

No, they're not. When I lived in a tiny Somerset village (200 residents?) we found out after someone was raped that they had housed 3 sex offenders there, one of whom was the rapist, all of whom had a history of child abuse. .

I do know they have to go somewhere obviously, but tiny communities or near schools like this... scary.

tiredemma · 05/01/2006 21:44

put them all on boats and send them out into the north sea. disgusting perverts.

the more i read about this the more enraged i become- to go in and take a child from their own home.

death is too good for them, i hope these three bastards suffer unimaginable pain and abuse in prison.

Janh · 05/01/2006 21:46

Me too, WCL. Always before when something like this happened (eg Sarah Payne) you could tell your children - and believe it - "it's OK, you'll be safe at home"

I really do think though that the media are being quite responsible in their coverage of this - whether off their own bat or because they've been warned off I don't know, but kids do see and hear the news and if this was blared out every time many of them would know and be terrified. The information is there if you want to look for it but not in your face.

millie34 · 05/01/2006 22:37

just said on the weslh news that a 26 yr old man has been charged for 5 offences. nothing more was said, i will keep u updated.

PrincessPeaHead · 05/01/2006 22:39

driving without lights
failure to stop at red light
failure to stop when requested by police
careless/reckless driving
abduction

bloody well hope there is a rape charge in there somewhere.

millie34 · 05/01/2006 23:00

the 26 yr old man has been arrested for all offences including 4 counts of serious sexual assault, he will appear before magistrates in the morning. the other men were questioned and released without charge.

PrincessPeaHead · 05/01/2006 23:03

hurrah!

but at the other men being released....

misdee · 05/01/2006 23:11

this makes me soo sick, i cant bear thinking about it. my dad started to talk asbout it today but io told him to shush as my kdis were about, one is just 3yrs old.

i read a story in TAB a year or so ago, about a man who took a 2yr old from her bed and attempting to rape her, i couldnt finsih reading, it upset me too much. these poor children. there was also a story in the local paper here about a baby rape case. again didnt read it, as too awful.

MrsWood · 05/01/2006 23:33

Couple of years ago, my MIL and I were reading papers where an 18 month old (!!!!) was raped by her stepfather whilst mum was at work. We couldn't believe our eyes! Feeling of disgust is an undestatement.

ruty · 05/01/2006 23:37

why have they been released? Wasn't the girl raped by at least two men? [makes me feel sick just to write it down.]
