Breaking News : Do you agree with a woman succeeding the throne?

Manathome · 28/10/2011 11:55

Commonwealth countries agree constitutional changes to remove gender discrimination in the order of succession to the British throne. Is this the start of an even slippery slope to mayhem in this country, or is it a positive thing?

I am confused with all the changes I face today, I now seem to be living in an alien country to the one I was born in, and I have had no choice in the matter.

As Haka says, were you not aware that we currently had a Queen? We have had them in the past: Victoria, Anne, Mary I and II, Elizabeth I, Mary I.

The whole thing is about a son like Andrew acceding to the throne before Anne who is older than he is which is the way it currently is.

EvilElizabethPonsonby · 28/10/2011 12:04

And how do you think women feel Manathome? I mean, it was all a bit new to me as well to be quite frank....

SarahBumBarer · 28/10/2011 12:05

And why have you had not choice in the matter Manathome? Sorry if that is nosy and not what you wanted to talk about it (ignore).

samandi · 28/10/2011 12:05

About time too. I had no idea this was happening, but it's long overdue. It simply doesn't fit with the concept of gender equality that we have in the UK.

hester · 28/10/2011 12:05

This thread is hilarious. Keep it going, OP!

samandi · 28/10/2011 12:05

Males having succession rights over females, that is.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 28/10/2011 12:07

"She would have been deemed!!"

Deemed??? Hmm Back on the next spaceship home OP.... there's a dear.

Manathome · 28/10/2011 12:07

I thought you women should be doing housework, how come you can get on here so quick, do you have iPads or something. I'm off to the kids farm with the kids and a picnic, the sun is out and we need to get out of this hell hole of housework, if it isn't done by the time she gets home what the hell, I will take it on the chin, OK, I may put a load in the machine before I go, then I can scatter it around the house before she gets in, the smell of the softner always mellows the old cow!

Andrewofgg · 28/10/2011 12:07

They'll be letting them vote next . . . although the Queen can't do that.

Funny if KM has a boy first and it all becomes irrelevant for another generation.

If we backdated it to 1901 then Kaiser Bill as the first child of Victoria's first child inherits the Throne and we can unfight at least the First World War!

colken Joking apart the law might only be changed for future generations.

Manathome · 28/10/2011 12:07

Re above 'Old cow' WAS A JOKE, I love her to bits really and she is not old Grin

KatAndKit · 28/10/2011 12:09

I don't agree with anyone acceding the throne. Get rid of the lot of them I say.

But if we are going to have a monarchy what is wrong with giving female members of the royal family the same status as males? The current queen hasn't done the monarchy any harm despite being a woman. But look who we will be getting next! It's enough to make me wish Anne had been born first.

Our next two monarchs will be male anyway. there is a 50/50 chance of getting another male after that. Does it really matter?

What can this be a slippery slope to? What negative consequences can come of this decision?

ArtVandelay · 28/10/2011 12:10

I'm not Gay - Grin

Youre not serious either! Please share some more of your concerns and opinions.

(but not too many... don't want your wife coming home to an untidy house and no dinner on the table)
