Prescott doesn't pay any council tax

Did anyone else see this story on the front page of the Sunday Times. He owns three homes and pays CT on none of them.
Tax on his official country residence is paid by charitable trust. His grace and favour pad at Whitehall has none. And he is entitled to claim back as an expense the CT on his home in Hull. This is despite an average rise in CT of 76% since he has been in office. Makes me

Why does this not surprise me at all? All this "I'm one of the working men, me" crap, when he takes all (and more) that the working men (and women) pay for. Socialism at it's worst

Not that I'm starting an 'I love Tony Blair' thread but the article I read said that he paid his and that he has only taken half his awarded pay rises since taking office.

I'm far from blindly devoted to TB but it does show a contrast somewhat.

Prescott annoys me with his 'man of the people' crap. DH's grandfather is a left-wing working class Yorkshire man who's met both JP and Margaret Thatcher and says that she was by far the most sincere.

hm - it's all very well for tone not to take all of his pay rise - his wife is a very highly paid barrister.

if prezza is entitled to cliam back council tax then why shouldn't he? I would. but he probably shouldn't be able to cliam it back..

They can earn much more than that! In Edinburgh call out charges are running between £50 to£100, and that is before they open their tool bag!

Get your child to be a plumber, and they will keep you in luxury in your old age!

Dhs uncle has just retited to spain and he is in his mid 50s and he was a plumber!

homemama, the fact that Tony is so rich that he doesn't need his salary, is something else which irritates me. I wouldn't condemn anyone for taking their full salary.

The only MP I've got any sympathy for re salary, is that leftie who draws the average wage and refuses to have the rest because he says MP's ought to be paid the average wage so that they're more representative of the people they serve (and it would also give them an incentive to get rid of low wages). Can't remember who it is now, it might be Tam Dalyell.

I'm pretty sure the Scottish Socialist Party do this too. They are pretty loony in most other things, but on this I applaud them.

And Tam Dalyell is an Old Etonian, no less. He expressed disappointment recently at Prezza's sneering at David Cameron for being an OE too. But Prescott is our finest class warrior, isn't he? The fact that he stuck his nose in the trough like the Tories he so despises is neither here nor there I suppose....

I was soooooooooooo angry at Fat boy Prescott,our council tax bill is 25% of dps student loan!!!
We dont get council tax benefit as they say a student loan is income! so if i go and get a loan for a car is that income?!!!

my BIL, his wife and 2 children (about 10 and 8 at the time) sat in an airplane, in club europe class, in the row behind a couple who spent the whole time knocking back gins and tonics, being rude to cabin crew for not bringing them things "on time" and periodically turning around and telling my BIL's children to shut up, stop kicking the chair etc (they were apparently being as good as gold listening to walkmans and reading books).

That couple was the Prescotts. BIL was horrified.
