new thread to discuss phonehacking scandal.

Sorry, what I mean is, in 2000 Rupes could well have been at the top of NI, even if that's a debatable description of him now.

(Although given James' constant deferral to daddy's judgement today, eg wrt closing NOTW and whether to have a Sunday Sun , I think "top of NI" is still quite apt.)

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 21:25

TT

Hands are OK, I threw imaginary frizzease, conditioning (dog) tablets and shook bonios at the tv instead !

Grin
Terribletriplets · 19/07/2011 21:30

(my hands are not going to be ok for a long time, because I am going to use that technique for as long as I have a table to bang on. My late lamented Gran used to use the same technique. And she did not run a multi-national. But I do see the merit in the madness as long as everyone does not know about it)

HedleyLamarr · 19/07/2011 21:35

My own personal view is that either she lied about her lack of knowledge wrt phone hacking or she is incompetent. Anyone in her position, especially as she enjoyed the protection of RM, must have known what was going on, as RM would not employ someone who is incompetent in her position. Therefore she must have known what was happening, and more than likely in detail.

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 21:35

Can you not wear a pair of thick gloves ? Maybe stick a coin to them so that they still make a noise on the table ?

Or, buy a gavel ? Grin

NattersAndMutters · 19/07/2011 21:48

I agree with claig about pieman. It was my first thought. Very clever of the Ms.

whitewave · 19/07/2011 21:49

Welcome home DC. You will be pleased to hear that your friendly neighbour has defended your integrity, maintaining that she never once visited you at No 10, Christmas was such fun wasn't it? and all those lovely birthday parties gosh what corkers they were.

oakmum · 19/07/2011 22:01

I only saw the first part and heard a lot of 'I don't know' today , but I'm asking myself ; what did they do in their job? only having lunches?
same as for advisors; wallis was apparently a 'minor advisor' , about what then? the weather? Nobody asked what police/press discussed when they met.
But maybe I do not understand everything as I'm dutch and my English is far from perfect.
Has this been asked today? Why do they have to meet each other? what's the point?

whitewave · 19/07/2011 22:12

apparently it is important for the police to keep the press on board because they need to make sure their work is explained properly to the press readers, quite why this needs lunches and pleasant little meetings is beyond me. I would have thought a weekly brief would be sufficient and the press could lump it.

LucaBrasi · 19/07/2011 22:18

I want to punch the arsehole with the custard pie. He has allowed sympathy for the old codger. And now we are going to have all the features on the 'feisty' wife.

And poor old codger was something that was played up today. Perfect PR approach. 10 seconds to answer questions! At one point I thought he was asleep - he looked like one of the Lords.

But what I want to know is, if he is such a dotery old fucker, why have News Corp Board members not picked up on it so far?

Corporate Governance - que?

hammybobs · 19/07/2011 22:31

OK am I adding 2+2 and getting more than I should here?

On a snippet of news earlier it said that RB 'fingered' George Osbourne as the person who 'recommended' hiring coulson. Not sure how well known that fact is, or if this is something new from today. Is GO being set up to take a bullet for DC? Hmm

claig · 19/07/2011 22:32

He started off doddery, but he perked up midway and started speaking faster. He's probably not doddery in NewsCorp board meetings and he probably bangs the table a lot there as well.

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 22:33

To be honest, I have no idea.

I think that if it comes to it, they will all turn on one another.

On the 'should DC resign' thread, others think that GO could be potential new PM should DC go.

See what I mean ?!

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 22:46

oh look... the man in the dirty beige suit is back on Newsnight. Still not arrested yet, eh?

OP posts:
BornSicky · 19/07/2011 22:47

and the cheek of it! McMullen is describing himself as a Whistleblower. He was outed by Hugh Grant. His conscience hardly pricked him enough to go forward to the police! In fact, he still hasn't bloody gone to the police.

teejwood · 19/07/2011 22:50

it's been a hard day listening to self-justifying drivel from these eejits...
liking the woman on from ny - who she?

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 22:52

I'm on [coffee].

Completely agree, teej. A long, hard day, and what more do we know ?

Just tick the box and move on.

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 22:52

bornsicky, loath as i am to stick up for McM, but according to the Grant piece itself he was "Paul McMullan, one of two ex-NoW hacks who had blown the whistle (in the Guardian and on Channel 4's Dispatches) on the full extent of phone-hacking at the paper, particularly under its former editor Andy Coulson."

i still have it open on my computer after the last time someone mis-quoted it. Wink

crazynanna · 19/07/2011 22:52

Oh it's the dodgy bastard in the kebab suit.
I worry about our Police force's detection skills...wasn't he on a warrant? Hmm

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 22:53
